Here 🇬🇧, they're Pavements, thus avoiding (sidestepping?) the problem.

Plenty of organisations, including within government, are frowning on that, too. Hopefully it'll go the same way as 'traffic accident'.

I wrote 'near-future' scifi i with a dystopian edge in 2017, and got overtaken by events! #ThePriceOfTime is still worth a read, mind, for the warnings.

Cars, drugs, guns.
And that's before the lack of universal healthcare kicks in.
John Burn-Murdoch has an excellent thread (and FT article) about this.

Prosopagnosia and difficulty reading expressions are two different problems - my MC has both. The latter is a 'blessing' for her in both senses of the word (blesse, in French, means injured) - she's the only one who can look her adversary in the face without blanking-out in panic.

My MC has the same - and it can make things very awkward for her at times! She can describe a face she's looking at, but a few seconds after it's gone from view it's gone from her memory. She compares it to "trying to remember middle C if you haven't got perfect pitch".

Ah - right. The post by itself looked as if it was addressed to anybody who writes. For example, plenty of sci-fi has romance as part of the plot...

I really need to set a Horror short on that ledge. Sounds a bit like the one in the Dark Arches in Leeds (tho' the latter is not a designated footpath!)

Actually happened to me the other way round.
Son had bought a new car and we met up on the way to the theatre or somesuch. I was walking down the road thinking, Who's that fecker kerb-crawling in that black Beemer - surely I'm too old for that kind of aggro? Lol 'twas him :)

Oxford Street (yes, that one!) Not sure how far they've got with it - I think they're discussing whether to count cycles as pedestrians, and if not they need some parallel safe roads for people to cycle.
