So you think that pointing out how women are shown less respect is ‘identity politics’?

There are enormous numbers of Russian Israelis, the bonds between the two are pretty tough given the sentimentality of Russians to their birthplace.

This. And I'm sick of people saying to "keep it peaceful" when we're fighting a regime who is kidnapping people and weaponizing the National Guard.

When they don’t have the cash to but it, they’ll take it. Climate change is existential and will destroy capitalism. The strong will devour the weak in a non-rules-based order.

As climate change bites, China will become increasingly aggressive as the CCP will do anything it needs to maintain power. That will include taking resources from others. Australia is a big resource.

At a certain point, a tax on a good is so high it becomes effectively a prohibition... and that's when the black market comes out to play... and that's when the policy begins to fail. The last thing any policy should do is make breaking the law socially acceptable.

Environmental offsets are the equivalent of ‘we’ll chop off your right arm, but as an offset to the harm caused, we promise not to chop of your left arm for 20 years’.

The challenge any Green Party has is that people are bad for the environment. Truly pro-environment policies are tough on people, and pro-people policies are bad for the environment. So focussing on social issues almost inevitable means making concessions on the environment.

High oil prices with a global economy wrecked by Trump isn’t realistic, unless as a short-term precursor to total global economic meltdown.

The vast majority did not vote Labor, it got about 1/3 of the vote, as did the Libs. They won on preferences. As their primary vote continues to slip, they will find themselves in the same place as the Libs.

Because our population growth is driven by immigration, so it skews the demographics (most immigrants are adults).

Australia has had a very comfortable existence for a very long time by doing very little. We are apathetic, cautious, centrist, conformist and fairly conflict-averse. That is not fertile ground for taking a stand, particularly where there may be a price for doing so.

Because we have never stood up to the US (or any other country other country other than reflexively on a couple of issues), and there is nothing about the current Australian polity that suggests otherwise. Australia is a DEEPLY risk-averse society.

The Nutbush (of Her Goddessness Tina Turner’s Nutbush City Limits) is danced at just about every Australian party, and we hold the world record for the number of people dancing the Nutbush.
