Cantras many other places. Mostly on mastodon but trying to find My People here as well. Bookish, anxious, full of anecdotes. Any pronouns.

Some years ago, VW announced they were changing their name to Voltswagen.
They got really mad that the reporting took it seriously, because it was supposed to be an April Fools joke.
This was iirc mid-late March.

my closest experience is the university's welcome fest, an afternoon where all the services and some business put up booths in one place for freshmen to come get their magnets and information.

This is the first time I have encountered it in person, though I had HEARD OF the concept (via the babysitters club books, of all things). Richard said it's a small town thing but I have lived in a similarly small town before.

A few years ago I heard it put as "a million minutes ago was the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. A billion minutes ago was the height of the Roman Empire."

If you can get a clump of fur off a dog, put it in the nest! That's how I kept them out of my garden when I had a spot that was tricky to fence.

When institutions decided to allow trans athletes to compete, it wasn't runaway wokeness, they were convinced by the evidence on hand that it was a reasonable thing to do. When they revoked it, they didn't cite evidence, they cited that people didn't like it.

I had a gourami and when fish people would hear "a" gourami they'd start going off about how they need to live in groups. "I know that! She doesn't! Her previous owner named her HIGHLANDER when he figured out what was happening!"

"Republicans will go on television and lie about everything from refugees eating pets to children demanding litter boxes in schools, but they will be honest & respectful about our policy goals if we make them conservative enough" is, has always been, and will always be willfully obtuse AT BEST.
