It was great to be invited to be part of this excellent round table, to be able to explore alternatives to GDP as a measure of quality of life. Great response from all there on the need to explore care within any wellbeing measure. Thanks to @carnegieuk.bsky.social & @wearenewlocal.bsky.social

We're really delighted to have a chapter featured in Arkbound Foundation new book: Our Economy. It was a great opportunity to articulate Care Full's vision for a care-centred economy. You can download the ebook for free from here: arkbound.ac.uk/publications...

Everyone has talked about Gene Hackman's legendary acting career, but as the details of his death and that of his wife: Betsy Arakawa has highlighted the complex lives people lead by those who have a relationship to care. 🧵

A few reflections from @carefull.bsky.social on #IWD which feels a little like it's lost its direction. Heavily inspired by Emma Holten who was on BBC Five yesterday talking about her excellent new book: Deficit. carefulleconomy.co.uk/2025/03/11/i...

On the back of #IWD we're reflecting on an occasion transitioning from socialist origins to a corporate entity. With the theme of 'accelerating action' can we afford to take such a politically neutral approach to the world we want to build? Read more here: carefulleconomy.co.uk/2025/03/11/i...

🗣️ Registration is open for the next session for those interested in public engagement in data and AI. As @richardjmurphy.bsky.social rightly points out, this type of focus: " will have any impact on the well-being of people who are in need in this country, who should be the epicentre of their concern."🧵 Too long has our ability to care for one another & ourselves be distant.

In our toolkit for community data campaigns we're sharing case studies where data is a key component. We include the campaigns that formed part of our first cohort. Read more on our website. Inc @carefull.bsky.social, @justtreatment.bsky.social connectedbydata.org/projects/20...

At Care Full we support the #SafeSickPay campaign from @progressivechange.bsky.social. For unpaid carers the fear of becoming ill is acute; it not only affects the practical aspects of care but the financial too. Our latest blog has more on the need for change carefulleconomy.co.uk/2025/02/07/c...

The Chancellor's announcements today centre airport expansion and football stadiums over engagement with the devastating levels of poverty @jrf-uk.bsky.social are reporting in the here and now. At Care Full we're hopeful change is possible, but we need radically more ambitious ideas to get there.

CLES's @sarahlonglands.bsky.social on today's speech from Rachel Reeves. She goes on: "continued deregulation as a strategy for growth can only ever end up extracting wealth from people and places, particularly those who are already vulnerable."

What *exactly* is a social care commission going to tell us that we don't know? What is the magical cross-party solve that *multiple* com'ns & reviews, incl a Royal Com'n, have failed to find? The issue is funding. Its a political choice. MAKE THE CHOICE you're elected to make & get on with it

We’re always pleased to see a focus on #carers on BBC breakfast but the focus on social care & not our failed economic model that creates a society that chooses growth over enabling us to care for ourselves & one another.

Ruth and Hannah at Care Full are using their Christmas Eve to hit the nail on the head about the vital topic of **Care**. This is what they do. Please read (not long) and follow them on here and elsewhere! Thanks in advance, pals. Merry Christmas!

Well. It’s been a year. And to sign off we’ve written a short reflection piece for the Big Issue. Thanks to @neonuk.bsky.social for helping us. Here’s to 2025 being more caring for us all.

We’ve written for the Big Issue about what we’re wishing for at Care Full this Christmas… a caring economy! And that’s us for the year. We’ll be back in 2025 with exciting work towards a new economy that enables us to care for ourselves, each other & the planet ♥️ www.bigissue.com/opinion/unpa...

This new law exemplifies the desperation of those providing unpaid care & the inadequacies of the system. But another law only benefitting a small group of carers highlights the need for big system change that centres care. #HughsLaw #carers #neweconomy #wearetheeconomy

Without an adequate social security system unpaid care is taken on at the expense of people’s financial wellbeing. It’s disappointing to see a response at PMQs today about this that didn’t acknowledge the labour of unpaid care let alone accept just how difficult it is within our current system.

Feels a timely sentiment for tonight's event in Sheffield with @simonduffy.bsky.social where we explore neighbourhoods of care. At @carefull.bsky.social we're interested in how we can create solidarity around the idea of care. A softer sentiment but a lot of parallels to the fight for workers rights

If you can make it join me and Ruth Hannan at Sheffield University - for relaunch of CIRCLE (Centre for International Research on Care, Labour & Equalities). I’ll be talking about the past, present and future of #socialcare. 3rd December www.sheffield.ac.uk/social-scien...

Dear media/commentators (2): More people are on health/disability benefits because more people are ill. & they’re iller for longer because: A. Getting treatment is hard & takes ages. B. We trap them in abject poverty. NOT because health/disability benefits are too easy to get or too generous. 1/2

Not one question about care or unpaid carers from MPs in response to the Get Britain Working statement, despite announcements that are about them. Starting @carefull.bsky.social has been hard work but I’m constantly reminded it’s needed. It’s time for a conversation about an economy that cares!

Your regular reminder that economic inactivity is a loaded and political term - we all contribute to the economy! For many, care for themselves or a loved one is the most important work they can take on. And that unpaid labour should be valued. Read @carefull.bsky.social’s analysis for more 👇

Important thread reflecting on the #GetBritainWorking announcement. Until we shift our thinking on the economy & care as foundational. It’s not the 80s. Let’s embrace a vision of work & care.

Today’s Get Britain Working announcements include a lot of economic inactivity shaming. So if it sounds alarming that 9.3m are not in work or looking for work then that’s because the stat only tells half the story… 🧵

For many workers, getting sick means a choice between three days without pay, or going into work ill. Clean for Good's managing director Charlie Walker explains why this needs to change.

"Reclaiming a Positive Future Vision" we're delighted to be joining @simonduffy.bsky.social at the Re-launch of the Centre for International Research on Care Labour and Equalities on 3 Dec in Sheffield. Sign up via the link below. www.sheffield.ac.uk/social-scien...

Our co-founder @ruthhannan.bsky.social will be speaking with the awesome @simonduffy.bsky.social at this ⬇️ event.

Have spent the day at the marvellous Care Lab event: Festival of Care. Just ending with @emilykenway.bsky.social talk whose work walks closely at the side of our @carefull.bsky.social work.

We recommend a listen to this week’s @macrodosepod.bsky.social, which closes with a neat reflection on how we have a more nuanced understanding about growth. We need more acceptance that care is a growing part of all our lives and fixating on growth risks limiting our ambition for a caring economy 🌟

It’s #carersrightsday with the theme ‘recognising your rights’. But with 600 a day leaving work to care is individual recognition enough or do we need a more collective approach? @ruthhannan.bsky.social’s new blog explores this, with help from the Beastie Boys! carefulleconomy.co.uk/2024/11/20/f...

As another #CarersRightsDay rolls around we @carefull.bsky.social explore how we need more data, a new approach based on solidarity & a little inspiration from Captain America. Please read and share.

Hello Bluesky 👋🏻 we’re Care Full, a new organisation working towards an economy that enables us to care for ourselves, each other and the planet. We’re excited to be here and thought we’d share a bit more about us…
