If your Christianity is for the benefit of one nationality, then it’s nationalism, not following Jesus.

“I see no color” is not the goal. “I see your color and I honor you. I value your input. I will be educated about your lived experiences. I will work against the racism that harms you. You are beautiful. Tell me how to do better.” ... That’s the goal.

Jesus never called his followers to defend Christianity, a “Christian nation,” or even their Christian churches. Jesus called them to defend the poor, the oppressed, and the hurting. Stop manipulating Jesus for the benefit of a few. Get to feeding, healing, and peacemaking.

The problem is not just that Trump thinks of himself as a Messiah; it’s that too many Christians want their Messiah to be more like Trump.

Christian Nationalists don’t want you to follow Jesus. They want to use Jesus, to manipulate others, to follow them. And only them.

For the oppressed, peace is the absence of oppression. But for the oppressor, peace is the absence of resistance. @zellieimani.bsky.social

Even the statement, “Let’s invite more Black people to the table,” implies ownership of the table and control of who is invited. Racism is about power. @berniceking

Jesus knew Lazarus would rise again. Still, he wept. Because embracing pain is not negating faith. It's actually part of being in the likeness of God. So have hope, but don't deny your emotions. Pay attention to them. Feel what you feel. And enjoy the coming resurrection.

Wow, do I need a draft folder, my dear new friend @bsky.app. A sacred space where my brain and words run wild—free from judgment, typos, and existential crises. Will you make one for us please? or shall we keep living dangerously?

Jesus did not call his followers to defend Christianity; he called them to defend the poor, the marginalized, the oppressed, and the hurting. Stop wasting time being offended. Get to feeding, and healing, and peace making.

Jesus fed the hungry and confronted the wealthy. Jesus healed the oppressed and challenged their oppressors. Jesus welcomed the outcasts and called out the religious leaders who excluded them. Jesus is still the liberator of the broken, not the mascot of the powerful.

When I criticize a system, they think I criticize them and that is of course because they fully accept the system and identify themselves with it. ~Thomas Merton

"Whenever Christians say, 'But is it Biblical?' I get uneasy. Smashing an enemy's infant against a rock is biblical.' I'm much more interested in if it is like Christ." —Michael Clevenger

Accountability feels like an attack when you're not ready to acknowledge your behavior. @tamararenaye

Instead of praising people for being 'resilient', change the systems that are making them vulnerable. Muna Abdi

Jesus didn’t say: Convert your neighbor Police your neighbor Take a tithe from your neighbor Correct your neighbor’s behavior Shame your neighbor into church Force your neighbor into prayer Serve your neighbor only as a way to evangelize them. Jesus said, love your neighbor.

America behaves as if guns were fearfully and wonderfully made ... not black people.

As Father Richard would say, “There is nothing to prove and nothing to protect. I am who I am and it’s enough.” Grateful to the lovely people at @cacradicalgrace for making room for our story, our friendship, and our questions. Here’s to more mystery, more silence, and more radical inclusion.
