“In some ways that’s even more chilling than firing the four stars,” Rosa Brooks, a professor at Georgetown Law. “It’s what you do when you’re planning to break the law: you get rid of any lawyers who might try to slow you down.” By NYT Greg Jaffe www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/u...

Meet my new kitty Miya, so named for beautiful Miyajima Island. She’s a Barn Cat Buddies rescue, has no tail and an adorable pink nose. Happy #Caturday!

WYOMING: “Thank you, Madam chairman.” “I prefer ‘Mister’ chairman.” “Well you all voted preferred pronouns cannot be compelled speech.”

Judges were trolled most of all by that King meme. They're not people you want to piss off, and I think they probably play great chess -- outstanding chess, even.

The Associated Press is launching a Local Investigative Reporting Program which will work with US state and local outlets and provide training in areas like open source investigative techniques and AI

Wait, what — will Virginia finally take measly, long-overdue steps toward campaign finance reform? Will Youngkin sign? www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

Aided in no small part by quality fact-checked journalism locked behind paywalls while the flood of misinformation is free.

Every journalist needs to ask every Republican now. Don't let them off with the "I haven't seen it." Show it to them. Make them respond.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I think this cyber attack on an already very weak newspaper chain (which includes The Roanoke Times) could spell huge trouble. cardinalnews.org/2025/02/18/n...

I’m telling you this moment was made for Lewis Black, whose latest rant careens from a 5-hour customer service call with Best Buy to Musk’s McCarthyite mumbo-jumbo with numbers. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/l...

"Ups the anti-democratic ante." Take away the #BrokenPost Thesaurus. It is TOTALITARIANISM. It is FASCISM. It is right under your fucking nose. Smell it. Say it. Trump’s Napoleon quote ups the anti-democratic ante www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

The Band, Jimmy Buffett and the AP are holding the line on this Gulf nonsense. So should we.

As a former journalist I see the lies and journalistic integrity as a huge reason why we’re here a good read from the @inquirer.com www.inquirer.com/opinion/comm...

Outrageous, but kind of makes sense in this upside-down.

We need some data viz magic to show us where these #J6 pardoned miscreants end up -- deceased, prison, etc. Voila, it's here!

Woohoo, Roanoke's protest yesterday got mentioned in this! #50501movement

I just had a quick (10 minute, including holds) call with a very friendly federal worker manning an 800-line phone -- you know, one of those in line for DOGE purging. She works for the IRS. I will be thinking of her.

The amount of secondhand embarrassment I have even just watching this is through the roof.

Roanoke, Virginia, #50501 protest today drew about 300 people in front of the Poff Federal Building. Mayor Joe Cobb said about 30 people had been fired from that building by DOGE so far.

Bipartisanship lives! If only for animals, in Virginia, thanks to Republican state Rep. Bill Stanley. I hope he's successful in his puppy mill campaign. cardinalnews.org/2025/02/17/f...

For those unfamiliar, the Associated Press is a non-profit cooperative formed by US news organizations that covers news for its 1,300 member papers, radio stations and TV stations. It is the foundation of the American press. It has always gotten the first seat and first question at official events.

"If Trump is denying access to outlets that refuse to lick his boots, then any media outlet that has access is compromised. Journalists who want to be worthy of the name have a moral obligation to follow the AP’s example in enraging the toddler in chief."

This White House doesn’t care about free speech or informing the American people. It cares about controlling the narrative by shutting out the press and punishing anyone who challenges it in even the smallest of ways. All Americans should object to this petty, unconstitutional ban on @apnews.com.

The opposition is the majority. MAGA will only get smaller from here. >> 2 truths on 02/14/2025

Mike White is the only celebrity I wish were my friend.

“Due to what appeared to be a failed mail merge, fired workers were addressed as [EmployeeFirstName][EmployeeLastName], [Job Title], [Division].” www.wired.com/story/doge-t...

Never in my AP Stylebook-loving days did I think it would come to petty this. The Associated Press once represented ALL of American journalism, founded as a cooperative that distributed stories from papers large and small, private and corporate, across the country.

This is excellent

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: Always. Read. Chris. I’ve basically witnessed the entire lifecycle of the legal blogger industry. It was just starting when I was in law school. And Chris is probably the only person I’ve read in those ~20 years who is almost always correct.

Everything DOGE has done so far reminds me of the Oscar Wilde quote that a cynic is someone who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

And the @nytimes.com has come through with this great WTF Tracker, yay! www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
