This past summer I did my CPE internship as a hospital chaplain. The mother of a patient was fraught and I spent time with her. She told me she makes handmade ceramics and spent 20 minutes showing me pictures, which made her calm and feel at ease. Today, I was surprised with a gift from her.

But Toad did not answer. He had fallen asleep.

I’m so proud of my denomination. ⚓️

As I’m finishing up seminary, one of the things I wish I had on campus during my time was a regular Bible study. Not a Bible study where we apply textual critical methods and insights from the original languages, but one where the text was alive and speaks to us as the still speaking Word of God.

The work continues, but small victories are indeed worth celebrating. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/24/u...

Since Christ is Lord of Heaven and Earth, how can I keep from singing?

Ultimately this is what Christian Nationalism would do with Jesus of Nazareth.

Just read 30 chapters of the Bible straight and now I’m so exhausted, AMA

Pope Francis is suffering from “initial, mild kidney failure” in addition to the serious respiratory illness that has left the 88-year-old pontiff in critical condition in a Rome hospital, the Vatican said on Sunday.

It’s Sunday.

After months of searching, I finally found a new, still in the box, large print NRSV thinline! This copy is really special to me because it is 12 point font, exactly the size I need in the pulpit (I’m an old school Baptist in that regard). Anything below 12 point is getting harder to see. ⚓️

Today is the Feast Day of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther, blessed Reformer of the Church catholic!

Please, USPS, give me more information on my package other than “Label Created, not yet in system”

A reminder from this queer clergyperson:

Recently discovered how delicious V8 is. Watch this space.

After a year of nonstop craving for it, my husband finally made some for me: lobster mac & cheese!

This Baptist knows he preached a good sermon when the congregation gets rowdy.

Baptists rock

My two mildly hot takes for today: 1. It’s okay to read other translations besides the NRSV. 2. It’s okay to believe in penal substitutionary atonement.

We glory in your cross, O Lord, and praise and glorify your holy resurrection; for by virtue of your cross joy has come to the whole world.

Depraved, sinful, and wicked. “May his days be few; may another seize his position.” —Psalm 109:8

Happy Valentine’s Day, theo-nerds!

I try to escape it but I can’t. For better or for worse I’m a NIV girlie through and through.

If anyone has been wondering what kind of Baptist I am, my bumper sticker says it all.

No Other Land—the documentary reporting on the destruction in Masafer Yatta in the West Bank—is hands down the best movie I’ve seen all year. It is gut wrenching, it is tear-jerking, but we are called to bear witness to the genocide in Gaza.
