Today in the neighborhood community page, Chicago drivers debate whether they should honk when exiting an alley. Some fascinating insights:

bruh it’s not getting misgendered in prison that scares me about prison

I thought this was a photo of Dallas at first

as more people get out into the street, some questions worth asking: - what risks/sacrifices are you willing to make for what you believe in? - are your actions symbolic or do they have material impact? do they protect ppl from state violence? - is your community in need of your energy elsewhere?

Dirty eyeglasses, dirty mirrors, these are just film grain IRL

"Rails to trails"? Why not "Rails to transit"??

Not me getting into film photography

It's interesting how closely the discussion of pedestrian deaths parallels the discussion of police shootings, with people always eager to say, "No, they didn't deserve to die, HOWEVER, based on available information, the victim probably could have avoided being violently killed by another person."

If all the cars were like this I’d be pro-car

Just pulled up to a stop light behind another cyclist. Dude starts doing circles to avoid stopping, and I join him for 4-5 circles until the light turns green. A beautiful moment shared with a stranger 😊 I hope that wasn’t annoying though

re: the transit bill I wanna be deliriously angry but honestly I'm just really fucking sad. I grew up in a town of like 10k people with no public transit at all, and I can't drive due to disability. When I first stepped on the CTA ten years ago it felt like being handed the keys to a whole new life

i moved to chicago from nyc because it’s like the one other place in the country with lotsa train. i don’t want 40% less train

Horrible morning. A 🧵 on how the fiscal cliff and budget works, from someone on the inside, so we understand what happens now. The most important headline: Midnight was not the deadline for the transit agencies, it was the deadline for the legislature. 1/

Please god let this be the one I’ve seen in my neighborhood

Here’s mine

Sitting on the couch scrolling through Instagram. I see that the gallery two blocks away is having an art opening and they’re only open for another hour. I throw on a jacket and walk over. I fucking love living in a walkable city.

Still the most mind-blowing fact about the New York City subway is that more people take it on a daily basis than fly domestically in the United States. www.faa.gov/air_traffic/...

This happened to me with NFTs. They were like, “you were right, those were a scam” I’m still living off that high

This is horrifying. Car dependency enables the surveillance state.

Replace the street parking on Kimball with bus lanes

my takeaway from reading 150 years worth of historical transit and planning documents is that the solutions have been known the entire time and studies are just a way for people who don't want change to waste time

Oh yeah, let’s get the helmet discourse started!

It's a bit complicated because "learn about the world and make more money" as a pitch for uni is enabled by the current neoliberal economic order, whereby labor-intensive manufacturing, agricultural, mining etc. jobs have been largely outsourced to third world nations with poor labor protections.
