I think a lot about how Black educators (myself included!) perpetuate the notion of ‘Black excellence’ with Black students. Black children do not need to be ‘excellent’ to be treated like children. They shouldn’t need to be ‘excellent’ to be treated with dignity, respect, and humanity.
