The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025. This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

"As with many of Trump’s big orange dreams, his 'Crypto Reserve' proposal is half-baked at best. But the brilliance of it is that Trump and his cronies can make bank just by talking about it. The president can use his bully pulpit to manipulate markets. And who’s going to stop him?"

Can we see how much stock in auto companies Eric & Junior Trump bought at 11:00 AM, since this was announced at noon?

Ahem ... Is this on? Yesterday our crew at @TPM launched our annual March membership drive. If you're not a member, I hope you'll consider joining. The link is right here. I wanted to take a moment to give you what I hope are good reasons to join. talkingpointsmemo.com/memberships?...

It is a time for poems. For unsettling every word.

Posting this from months ago because we DO have homegrown experience with autocratic regimes in this country. In nearly half this country during the first 6 decades of the 20th century Black people lived under systems of cruelty, voter suppression, hate, state violence & corruption. Ask them!

Dear manager, this week I: 1) Woke up 2) Decided what type of man I will be 3) Walked a total of 1,000 miles, split into two segments of 500 4) Fell down at your door 5) Da da da (da da da), da da da (da da da), da da dum diddy dum diddy dum diddy da da da

I hope it's not already too late. Too many people on the wrong side have no problem with the authoritarian actions being taken against the citizens.

This is how you do it. Thank you, @tupelopress.bsky.social!!!

they don't know ❤️

NEWS: The Pennsylvania Immigration Coalition is calling for a *general strike* in Philly on Super Bowl Sunday as part of a week of action to protest Trump’s brutal crackdown. “That means immigrant workers stay home and immigrant customers stay home, too.” whyy.org/articles/phi...

It's mostly obvious. But it's worth saying explicitly and this is an example. Under the heading of "DEI" they're not simply banning some new things from the last decade but also what is simply civil rights enforcement and even (as here) the mere recognition & expression of racial & ethnic identity.

last night I dreamt three bald eagles fell out of the sky and died, and I was trying to call to report it, but I couldn't figure out where to call. I woke up in the dream and thought, wow, that's subtle, unconscious, and began drafting this post in that dream. i think this one is real. we'll see.

Protest at the Treasury in DC Tuesday 5PM. Pass it on.

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

I spent so much ink on Gitmo in my book about concentration camps because it was clear that by failing to eliminate detention there, this is where we've been headed for decades. What the US has already done is horrific, and in an unconstitutional no-man's-land, we face the possibility of much worse.
