Nate, sometimes you are too Canadian! 🇨🇦
I was trained to be a RR teacher. I thought I was being given THE BEST, researched model for teaching emergent readers. But after I looked at the evidence, I changed my practice.
RR teachers are dedicated, but it's time they looked at the research.

I just finished listening while out doing some chores. Both of you touched on a number of things I've been thinking about too!
I had a few extra listeners, while I was outside too!

You’re welcome, Marc! It’s great to connect to another structured literacy advocate in Canada! 🇨🇦
The Ministry of Ed. In BC is still very reluctant to change their curriculum to structured literacy, and the more voices we have saying it’s more effective for our struggling readers, the better!

I have to admit, I called in to ask a question, when it started to look like the callers weren't directing the discussion in a productive way, but by the time I asked my question, you had both nailed lots of important issues on the topic!
I should have had more confidence!

I'm so excited to listen to your interview!
I'm a little apprehensive about what you could say "out of pocket," but I'm sure it will be interesting!

This is such good news! Having used UFLI as a tutor for over a year, I am not surprised by its effectiveness, especially as Tier 1 instruction.

Partner reading is an excellent method to practice fluency.

It's really unfortunate that BCEd's usual suspects are so resistant to change. We can only hope that continued grass roots pressure and research evidence around learning will force them to change their ways.

I remember reading this one, but I can't remember any details, only that it was a generational tale!

I love that quote! We need to be kind to ourselves and others while we learn new ways to teach!

This sounds amazing! You'll have to keep us posted on how the implementation goes!

Absolutely, but here in BC, this isn't happening at all. Does anyone have a different experience?

The curriculums were definitely flawed, the tricky part will be proving they were ‘intentionally’ flawed.
