why is *every* newspaper/programme running with the headline "tariffs are paused" when they haven't been. What's happened is that every country (except China) gets a flat rate of 10% for 90 days.

I've heard people explain that tariffs = higher prices for consumers & households but I don't recall anyone pointing out that since the federal Treasury takes the tariff funds in and the cost is passed on from the importer to the consumer, that means its, effectively, a tax increase on households.

I bought gas yesterday afternoon at a price of $2.479/gal. Before tariffs came back. This morning, the same station had prices of $2.899/gal. To save you the mental math moment, that's a $0.42 increase, or put another way, 16.9%. Are we winning yet?
