There is value in asking big questions about Alberta’s future and doing so in a way that brings people together. However, the “Alberta Accord” and “Alberta Next Panel” are likely to do the opposite. My latest. open.substack.com/pub/drjaredw...

Fiou.

Hot off the heels of yesterday's Canadian federal election Jack Lucas @jacklucas.bsky.social and I have updated our estimate of the size of the urban-rural divide in party support. The punchline: it hasn't gone away!

Malheureusement, le t-shirt ne me fait plus.

Qui déchire du papier???

As someone who grew up on that border, reading about geopolitical tensions from a mountain that many on the Canadian side consider “local” is both weird and sad.

Trump’s rise revived Canadian nationalism, but how did we get so vulnerable to U.S. unpredictability? Gregory J. Inwood looks back at the free trade legacy of the Macdonald Commission & why it may be time for a new royal commission to chart a nationalist path forward policyoptions.irpp.org?p=116443

Not all communities are hit the same by US tariffs. This a great tool by colleagues. The map is cool but, to me, the treemap by industry/province is the most useful in making sense of the data. Have a look!

Very niche tweet (and that's sad!) but Klaebo winning the 50km this morning is bananas. He just won all six races at the world championships - sprint, 20k skiathlon, 10k classic interval start, team sprint, relay, 50k 🤯 🐐

New @irpp.org commentary out today from me and Ricardo Chejfec looking at ways to reduce U.S. economic leverage over Canada while supporting the communities most affected by tariffs. irpp.org/research-stu...

How does today’s Conservative Party differ from the old Progressive Conservative Party that it subsumed? Historically, the rule of thumb was that parties on the left were pro-labour and parties on the right were pro-business. I’m not sure that framework still holds. open.substack.com/pub/cdnsurve...
