Me, in a work water-cooler chat, waving @stephanieburgis.bsky.social's Wooing the Witch Queen as a fantastic read this week. (I finished it in two days, and really needed that combo of kindness and fierceness in a book right now. Recommended!)

ICYMI: I built a starter pack of classic romances that goes all the way back to the 1950s. Selected to show the genre’s breadth, not simply to hit familiar highlights. It’s a lot of hidden gems, and I’ve probably left off at least one of your faves (gift link). #RomanceColumn #Romancelandia

Having just read a whole lot about Matilda, absolutely seconding her awesomeness. I was also fascinated while reading Catherine Hanley's Matilda by her various allies, especially her older (illegitimate) half-brother, Robert. Matilda inspired a lot of loyalty.

Me, at doctor (specialist) for my seasonal visit: Her: "You're much more chipper than most of my patients." Me: "The body's going to do what the body's going to do. I figure I'll do what I can about that and get on with doing other things."

Weaving Hope is out today! Do you need a cosy book full of weaving, being open to new things, and a few architectural mysteries? A great entry to my books. - A late in life romance in 1928 - Venerable tapestries - Beautiful gardens - People working together celialake.com/book/weaving...

If you’ve bought a book from a trans author lately, you’re helping. If you’ve bought a book from a queer author, a Black author, an Asian author, a disabled author, a Palestinian author — if you’ve even recommended one of those authors’ books on socials or to friends, you’re helping. Thank you.

Today is the FaRoFeb free book blast! Check out more than 200 fantasy romance and paranormal romance books, including my Pastiche (that's under the gaslamp section). farofeb.com/freebooks/

Because I deal with stress by making orderly lists of things, I just did an update on my recent research reading (for a long-term project aiming at books set leading up to 1484). www.patreon.com/posts/121127... (I'm reading with a specific piece in mind for historical fantasy purposes.)

Kiya has many talents, and I am delighted to see this particular thing back online.

I am deeply amused that I managed to post an extra for my Patreon folks yesterday related to the January 24th 1925 solar eclipse. Not intentional timing, but I'm delighted! (That eclipse, which was about 90% total where my characters are, is also in Eclipse : celialake.com/book/eclipse)

Past me made very good choices for today me's lunch. Farro salad with roast beets, blue cheese, mixed greens, and a honey mustard vinagrette. (The original recipe adds walnuts, but I'm in the office and we're a nut free campus.)

Today's weird historical research has produced: - Map of sperm and right whale sightings in 1852 - "Wait, 1854 is before 1870 and the unification of Germany. What's it called at the moment?" (The 1870 date is stuck in my head for a character reason.)
