"taking nourishment" and "this press conference is an indication that I still have my wits about me" are pretty insane metrics for how a public official should decide whether to run, & yet it's this ubiquitous metric that explains a lot of Congress right now.

We’ve got about 24 hours to make sure our transit rider representation bill passes the Washington state senate. People who rely on transit should get a seat at the table! actionnetwork.org/letters/supp...

I see it. I have lived it. 83 years ago, the U.S. government turned upon a group of its own citizens and residents and sent them to internment camps without due process. I was there among them. American fascism is back. It is here. It is now.

if I have to hear one more fucking county council member say "sports brings people together" I love parks too but not everyone on the planet is a jock, let's make sure there's some lawn for the theater kids to roll around on

Mr. Abrego Garcia was illegally abducted by the Trump Admin and, by their own admission, wrongly deported to El Salvador. He shouldn’t have to spend another second away from his family. I'm flying to El Salvador tomorrow morning to check on his condition and discuss his return.

Seattle Fire is currently responding to a driver hitting someone on a scooter at Yesler Way and 8th Avenue.

Bothell's council is actually passing this resolution tonight, so you can send them a supportive note if you're so inclined.

To summarize: the senate version of HB 1217 would have allowed annual rent increases of 12.6% or even 18.5%, had it been applied in 2021 and 2022. The house version may have actually helped flatten the curve, capping rent increases at 7%.

Molly Jong-Fast: “I'm going to respectfully push back on this. This is thought policing 101. This is not okay. They are using anti-antisemitism as a cloak. This is about targeting speech. It has nothing to do with anti-antisemitism and everything to do with authoritarianism.” #HarvardUniversity

Tax the rich, pass it on. #TaxDay

The Washington Senate just approved HB 1596, which will require drivers convicted of reckless driving or excessive speeding to install an automatic speed governor as part of their probationary driver's license. The vote was 40-8. www.theurbanist.org/2025/04/14/o...

HB 1596, the anti-speeding traffic safety bill mentioned in this op-ed, passed the Washington State Senate on a 40-8 vote. Some amendments will need concurrence with the House, but it appears headed to the governor's desk to be signed into law. www.theurbanist.org/2025/04/14/o...

This is big: @jessdbateman.bsky.social's Housing Accountability Act, a major step forward in holding local jurisdictions accountable for following state housing laws, just passed the House 78-19! www.theurbanist.org/2024/01/04/h...

It is essential for the rule of law that everyone involved in this end up in prison. Nothing else is a sufficient deterrent against the intentional, repeated abuse of government power to systematically deny fundamental rights.

Just approved by the WA Senate: HB 1183, a smorgasbord of building code changes. -Requires building allowances for passive house projects -Bans facade modulation & upper level setbacks with affordable housing, passive house, mass timber, modular construction app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary/...

This is how I feel about the legislative session, honestly

Seattle Fire just responded to a driver hitting someone on a bike at Rainier Ave S and S Norman Street. The person who was hit was transported to the hospital with an "obvious broken arm" and other injuries including a possible concussion. This was a hit-and-run.

All thoughts are intrusive

Sounds like the new Seattle CCTV cameras are now live. Lots of helpful info in this.

I’m not sure there’s another park I know that does more with a smaller space than the weird UPS waterfall park in pioneer square.

I’d like to have a word with the people at the Voter Protection Project who are alienating voters by paying for obviously manipulative texts that no one signed up for because they have given their consultants the singular metric of “number of dollars raised per text message sent.”

Good morning Bluesky !

This amendment on SB5041 (Unemployment insurance for striking workers) was passed via voice vote instead of a roll call vote. It is cowardly to vote against workers without having to go on record for it. Workers have a right to know which elected officials betrayed them.

Tomorrow! Public Bathroom Campaign organizing meeting #2 We will have a presentation from @realchangenews.bsky.social and begin a community power map. Reach out for zoom link. Info @ share the cities dot org

Fun update: I first have to convince 25% of my neighbors just to do another speed study before I’m allowed to convince 70% of my neighbors to install the humps — if the county has the budget

Shared Streets are places where cars are allowed but people are centered (not squished against the edges).

What could go wrong? 🫠

Moving day 😵

10% plus inflation is unacceptably high. It's higher than what is in the statewide bills in California (5% plus local CPI, max of 10%) or in Oregon (10% total). It sure reads to me like WA Senate Democrats simply did not really want to pass this bill, and tried gutting it instead. Not cool.

64 yeas on parking reform!!! OMG! Thank you SO much @davina425.bsky.social & @jessdbateman.bsky.social, Sightline team (especially @citizen-cate.bsky.social) and the massive coalition spanning far left to center right I had the privilege of working with to put together support for this bill!

With this amendment, Yakima Kirkland Auburn Kennewick Redmond Pasco Redmond Marysville Sammamish Lakewood Lacey Olympia Richland Burien Will all implement parking reform 18 months sooner.

Thank you @davina425.bsky.social for your leadership moving this bill forward in the House! This wouldn’t have been possible without the pro-housing coalition organized by @sightline.org.
