Like Samhain, Midsummer was thought to thin the veil between worlds. In Irish and Scottish lore, fairies were especially active, leading people astray or bestowing gifts. Offerings of cream, bread, or flowers were left at fairy mounds for goodwill. #FolkyFriday Art: Rackham

One of many once-common Beltane traditions was building two bonfires & driving herds of cows between them to bring good luck. Flowers would also be tied to the cows' horns & tails to protect them from supernatural milk thieves, like fairies & witches. #FolkyFriday

I put a lot into this one. It might lift your spirits in this troubled week. It was certainly quite good for me to make it. www.mixcloud.com/Jimbobfagan/...

These are both such good reads, and so looking forward to the rest in the universe

I feel like there are more bees, hoverflies and other assorted flying creatures in my garden this year, and we have swifts circling above, and latge moths at night, but I'm really hoping butterflies will come back. What the best food for butterfly larvae please

Golowan is the Cornish Midsummer festival, commonly thought to be the remnants of some ancient druidic ritual involving bonfires. The town of Penzance even has its own horse in the tradition of Mari Lwyd: Penglaz the Penzance 'Obby 'Oss (Hobby Horse)! #FolkyFriday

The Vance joining bluesky thing is a deliberate attempt to stoke tension once again & create content for a flailing disaster for American politics. His posts are deliberately “playing nice” so then lots of viral content can be created when people react angrily. Don’t get played. Just don’t engage

Well this was absolutely fabulous. Roll on the album. Definitely up for more of these two playing together! @samsweeney.bsky.social @cecilsharphouse.bsky.social

Just put a lot of gig and festival reviews live at www.fatea-records.co.uk/magazine/live/ Support live music, buy in advance

Midsummer/ Gwyl Ifan Ganol Haf is approaching 🌻☀️✨️. One of my favourite things to do is watch Chesters Midsummer parade, a festival that has stood the test of time for well over 500 years & celebrates the beautiful traditions, mythical characters & history of the place. #witchsky #pagansky #folklore
