The #irony isn't lost on me that I'm in the process of #printing game cards for an #InteractionDesign class I'm running tomorrow to help designers understand the frustrations of #BadTech... And every interaction I have is painful #academicsky #slowtech #IndustrialDesign

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Today we celebrate Saint David’s Day, a reminder to ‘Gwnewch y pethau bychain’ (Do the little things) Whether it’s a bowl of cawl a Welsh Cake or a quiet moment of reflection it’s a day to appreciate Wales and Welsh culture. #StDavidsDay #DyddGŵylDewi #Cymru #DewiSant

How well do we really understand the materials we design with? We often think about materials in terms of their properties: strength, weight, durability, but true material intelligence goes beyond technical specifications. It’s about understanding how materials shape design and influence UX

We are aware the Charity Commission is pushing back vigorously on the idea that funding for environmental litigation is "charitable". But it seems supremely relaxed about funding for anti-trans or anti-abortion cases. I guess that's because it's not really a regulator at all.

🚨Over at CymruFyw, @jaclarner.bsky.social investigates how speaking Welsh influences your political views, such as your left-right position on tax & spending, Brexit, independence and the monarchy 📖 www.bbc.co.uk/cymrufyw/ert...

An investigation found the pair had no case to answer and that the trust had breached its own disciplinary policy.

Great teaching isn’t about delivering content. It’s about fostering curiosity, guiding discovery & empowering students. Learning happens through doing, questioning & iteration. Create the gap, support the leap & let students own the process. Reflection deepens learning. #ExperientialLearning #EduSky

Proofing day! This is my advance copy of Lessons in Low-Tech: A Handbook for Sustainable Education. The tabs mark edits before final print - it's getting close! On my way back to my desk from a meeting in East Quad, TU Dublin Grangegorman. #LowTech #SustainableEducation #BookProofing #AcademicSky 🌍

#StBrigidsDay bank holiday here in Ireland – a time for new beginnings and creativity. After the high of receiving my book proof, I’m back to writing, this time exploring final-year #ProjectSupervision and the role of coaching in shaping future designers. #Writing #DesignEducation #AcademicSky

It’s here! Just unboxed the proof of Lessons in Low-Tech! Holding it makes all the work feel real. This book is about designing smarter, simpler, and more sustainable. Can’t wait to get it into people’s hands. What’s one Low-Tech design you love?🌍 #LowTech #SustainableDesign #AcademicSky #author 💙📚

🎧Updated every month the playlist currently contains a whopping 800+ songs - that's more than 50 hours of wonderful Welsh music to discover From pop, punk, funk, soul and rock 'n' roll to hip hop, folk, reggae and rap, there's something for everyone

Starting Semester 2 with a clear mind and a solid plan. Kicking things off by outlining an education conference paper and time-blocking my schedule to stay productive and focused this term... Here's to working smarter and making every moment count. Wish me luck! #academicsky 🌍

The wind map website remains mesmerising. earth.nullschool.net

Cara Augustenborg's article here is critical. Psych research shows that experiencing extreme weather boosts climate awareness, but only if people connect it to climate change. RTÉ's coverage of Storm Éowyn misses this link undermining climate action. Thoughts? 🌍 #sustainability #climatechange

Looking ahead to Sem 2 the focus shifts to working with clients and refining concepts. Building on last semester, we'll be pushing for deeper resolution - translating ideas into impactful, polished outcomes. Excited to see students rise to the challenge! #DesignEducation #CreativeProcess #ClientWork

NEW: Why not calling a Nazi salute a Nazi salute puts us in a whole new place of danger. We have to call spades spades or what else is there? open.substack.com/pub/broligar...

2025 is THE year for big climate and nature policy decisions in the UK, and the signals are clear that this Government is already failing. #BBCLauraK

"Yes, and" ...more damage from climate hazards ...more regional inequality ...a smaller domestic tourism sector ...a bigger current account deficit ...more costly traded carbon prices ...higher land and energy prices ...more noise and air quality Etc.

Extending the sentence of a 78-year-old peaceful protester due to administrative failure is nothing short of cruelty. This is punishment piled on top of an already excessive sentence. We should all question the motives behind such disproportionate treatment of those standing up for climate justice.

Undertaking a PGCert in University Learning and Teaching has prompted me to reflect on how my transition from industry to academia has influenced my teaching philosophy and approach. Contemplating my learning challenges, experiences, and mentors is assisting me in refining my practice. #academicsky

Standing in solidarity with Joe. Arresting someone for merely discussing nonviolent protest is tyrannical and deeply undemocratic. In addition nonviolent action is a cornerstone of democracy, not a crime. We need more people like him willing to stand up for our future. #SupportJoe #JustStopOil

#LowTech thrives on #SharedKnowledge and collective effort - much like the Irish tradition of #meitheal. By #sharing tools, skills, and ideas, we can develop simpler, more sustainable solutions that truly serve our needs. Low-Tech isn’t about doing less; it’s about doing better together.

Users make mistakes. Not because they're stupid. Because they're human. And that's not a bug. That's how we learn. A thread about forgiveness in design 🧵

When asked for advice for young entrepreneurs, the previous Duke of Westminster, Gerald Grosvenor, replied: “Make sure they have an ancestor who was a very close friend of William the Conqueror.” Today, less than 1% of the population owns at least half of England. @tortoisemedia.bsky.social

Repair culture isn’t just about fixing things; it’s about designing with care, responsibility, and longevity in mind. This is from a Repair Café I took part in. Spaces like this empower communities to mend, adapt, and rethink how we interact with objects. #RepairCulture #SustainableDesign #LowTech

Ursula K. LeGuin on technology

It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to get into the #workshop (and even longer since I was able to #make something for me. This was a piece from the summer where I was teaching someone to make their first #chair and try their hand at #upholstery for the first time.
