Too hot for dignity.

Planning Book 2 of my series, and I needed a world for my characters to repair their ship. It's only going to feature for the first few chapters, but here I am with enough notes about the people, culture, tensions, and unique atmospheric conditions to write a whole new series set in this place 🤦‍♀️

I repurposed the central premise of my book (reluctant surrogate father to a special child) from a fanfiction story I wrote several years ago based on Brandon Sanderson's 'Rhythm of War'. Nothing else is the same, but I did love the dynamic between the characters and re-used it in my book.

Glanced at my book's shiny new climax earlier today. Can't even remember why, but I found myself reading the whole thing, unable to put it down. Haven't read in over a week, and other than some typos, bloating, and clunky rhythm here and there, I am actually pretty damned pleased with it.

Rewatching Andor with my husband. This show is peak TV. It’s even better second time around.

I was obsessed with Farscape as a teen. They all love each other (in the end), but everyone bickers constantly, and the one-liners are mean but hilarious. It may have taught me mutual affection is best shown through chaos and sarcasm. Now, give me a ragtag band with high-level sass, and I'm happy.

Overcoming grief and addiction through the power of human connection is the central theme of my book. I didn't really plan it, per se. But I started writing this book right after my mum died, just shoving all my favourite tropes in my favourite setting (space opera) and trying to forget.

Big shout out to these two awesome authors. They've both got new releases out! @jaromstrongauthor.bsky.social & @kcharperauthor.bsky.social And @gunsmile.bsky.social. I've made many friends here, but Ange was the 1st. Her writing is divine, and she's so driven! She's going to conquer the world!

Just saw advice from an established author who runs a writing platform, suggesting if you don't get a request in 10-12 queries, there's something wrong with your book and querying more is "disrespectful" to agents. This bothers me so much. Feels out-of-touch with the realities of querying in 2025.
