I was raised Catholic but left the church first chance I got at 18. Never regretted that choice, but Pope Francis was one of the only Catholics who occasionally reminded me of the church’s potential for kindness and decency. I’ll miss him.

Gonna be honest, I have thoughts on Pope Francis: I was raised Catholic in a time of John Paul II, and honestly, Kevin Smith’s DOGMA made me pick the “drop out of religion” path of Catholicism most adults face at 18 or so (the other path being “double down”). Francis seemed like a real person.
