Filmmaker Spike Lee in his first feature film, She's Gotta Have It (1986), in which he played Mars Blackmon, a fast-talking bike messenger. #BlackHistoryMonth

New supplement to the Highway Code...

It's some padded hooks on a slidey rail. It's not very innovative. And also quite ablist.

Nice editorial here. www.independent.co.uk/voices/edito...

Something is going really wrong in North Tyneside if 28 people can put a stop to a cycle lane that connects children’s homes to their school:

I don't normally give the oxygen of publicity to this, er, "character", but see this supposed "clarification": www.thenational.scot/news/nationa... It actually makes it worse, because: * He would prefer to live under other far rightists as well as Putin. * He would NOT fight to protect Britain 1./

Your 🧵for today. And don't forget to download the study by @ianwalker.bsky.social and keep it in your files.

Please support the campaign for Presumed Liability which shifts the burden of proof to the insurance company in a collision, and is intended to compensate vulnerable road users more quickly and effectively petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70... @edinburghgravel.cc

Good old Private Eye! And of course: "Woddabout the Chinese?*". * My answer: If we can't cut ghg emissions here, we're not going to be able to expect the Chinese et al. to do so.

It's nice and sunny, so here's @georgemonbiot.bsky.social to cheer us up*. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... When, like me (you?) and George, you are used to staring at the catastrophe of global heating, I suppose you may be a bit more prepared for, er, catastrophes. *Sarcasm.

In which @jonburkeuk.bsky.social is correct.

My 🧵for today referring to 🧵s by @psimonk.bsky.social and @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social

See 🧵s by @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social and @psimonk.bsky.social . This avoidance of the main/real issue in what is supposedly being considered (which, by good luck, happens to also involve the chance to take a pop at cycling/cyclist) is a key feature of car supremacist culture warriors action. 1./

Interesting: www.abi.org.uk/news/news-ar.... Some of this is theft, but a lot due to drivers crashing their cars into other cars, people etc. That's despite decades of engineering vehicles and the highway environment. Or at least partly BECAUSE of attempting to accommodate bad driving. 1./

I wonder if those calling for a moratorium on floating bus stops where some folks have (legitimate) concerns about safety will also call for a moratorium on buses being used in London where people are actually regularly being killed and injured? www.standard.co.uk/news/transpo...

As we assumed, it's the last season for Thomas. Thanks for the memories G!

Thanks for this @carolinerussell.bsky.social. Now to go in those LTN reference files, not that it'll make any difference to the bigots. @londoncycling.bsky.social @bobfromaccounts.bsky.social @cyclinguk.bsky.social @livingstreets.bsky.social @jonburkeuk.bsky.social @lowtrafficfuture.bsky.social

A 🧵for today: one of my non-normal posts, because this is important, even if his analysis is in some ways incorrect.

Women's rights activist Susan B. Anthony realized the importance of the bicycle as an instrument of liberation - one of the invention's most significant legacies. Happy #BicycleBirthday, Susan B. Anthony! Born on this day February 15 (1820-1906)

I mean, I'm going to carry on reading @theguardian.com Opinion pieces, but this lot today are enough to send you jumping and screaming out of the window: A. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... B. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... (although at least Ms. Hyde is funny) C....and also: 1./

Mademoiselle Billaud after winning a cyclocross race. It's the 100th anniversary of this photo, and it still goes harder than anything on the Internet. February 14, 1925 #otd

Even if you're already a member of a campaign group like @londoncycling.bsky.social, it's worth joining @cyclinguk.bsky.social for the work they do for everyday utility cycling. And they are not sponsored by Shell. (BTW I was a member for a couple of years before 1984)
