This really may be the single most underrated album of the past couple years

Feeling the intense need for policy-making reform as strong as ever today

Thinking about this today as I enjoy a snowy morning view on Bay Parkway

A slushy, snowy Brooklyn morning

It's January, it's cold, and a lot of people still don't know how nice it can be to spend time outside in the winter. In this month's Parks on a Bike newsletter, I shared 5 great ways to find joy in the outdoors, even in the worst of winter. Read it here: parksonabike.substack.com/p/five-great...

Edge of the world, Brooklyn

There’s just something about urban storefronts on the east coast that just hit. It’s a really unique, under appreciated visual language

The rare Express G at Church Avenue today

Life can be so beautiful

There really is just hardly any urban form as singularly unique as Flushing anywhere else in the US

We’ve known for a long time that the effects of traffic are exponential, but it’s really amazing to watch in real time as a 7.5% reduction in cars from congestion pricing leads not to a little less gridlock, but basically free flowing streets in Manhattan

It’s time to frolic

Saw a celebrity today - the NYC bike lane snow plow

This is without a doubt the most underrated part of NYC

I have got to find an urban planning conference taking place in St. Louis

Another year of record-setting cycling ridership over NYC DOT's East River bridges, a major metric for city cycling levels. NYC DOT published new ridership data this morning here: www.nyc.gov/html/dot/htm...

Incredible historic signage in St. Louis, MO from Street View

My Wrapped has no surprises at all

A walk Uptown

Great new report from DCP on the City's declining commercial vacancy rates. The report touches on the success in SoHo/NoHo, and within the NoHo BID specifically, our vacancy rate is half of what it was in 2019! www.nyc.gov/assets/plann...

Another day, another Parks fire. Again at Inwood Hill Park this morning. Since I published this yesterday, there's been at least two fires since

"New York City’s thousands of empty storefronts, a symbol of the lasting effects of the coronavirus pandemic, are filling up faster than many predicted. Thank your local taqueria." www.nytimes.com/2024/11/15/n...

I love how @hellgateny.bsky.social calls out the Mayor's defunding of the Parks department as ONE of the reasons why we're facing these fires... hellgatenyc.com/parks-budget...

It’s been a jaw-dropping couple of weeks for fires in the Five Boroughs. How many have been in NYC Parks? It’s unclear, but I’ve been trying to track. So far, I’ve found 13 Parks with a combined 36 fires, including one over 50 acres. Read here: parksonabike.substack.com/p/just-how-m...

NEW: Even in a drought, we're still water rich in New York state, and that is the bigger problem, by @timdonnelly.bsky.social nygroove.nyc/nyc-drought-...

As far as I can tell, nobody is centrally tracking NYC Parks fires. I've been trying to keep a list going, and it has over 20 in the past 10 days, but the real number is probably a lot higher

In US cities, ~2/3 of crash deaths occur on streets owned by the state – not local gov. Outdated, deadly state roads are preventing cities from building the safe, comfortable, and transit-friendly streets that residents want. My deep dive, in @vox.com 🧵 www.vox.com/future-perfe...

The mayor's cuts to NYC Parks funding—and especially forest management—make fire prevention and response far less effective and restoration of woodlands in the aftermath extremely difficult. If you live in NYC, please ask the Mayor's Office to restore funding. secure.ny4p.org/a/no-cuts-to...
