"It's really hard to fathom that the guy making my pizza for 25 years is a gangster and a terrorist, and the person who shows up in an unmarked car wearing a mask and body armor comes to take him away is somehow the good guy” www.wnep.com/article/news...

The world is chaos, but in my back yard I have cherry blossoms 🌸 and my ukulele.

@scalzi.com am on Day 6 of Moon. Giggling helplessly whenever Wheaton says, "What KIND of cheese?" and at the subsequent evasions. So far, listening to Moon is as if 7 Eves got soaked in serotonin so it was actually pleasurable to read. No shade to Stephenson, but that'n bummed me out for YEARS.

anyone looking around their community is acutely aware there are jobs that need to be done. falling apart buildings, trash strewn streets, people without shelter. work needs to be done in order for those things to be solved. "build a factory that makes injected molded things" isn't one of those jobs

whatever bespoke hypothetical thing you mean by "end social justice practices in the workplace", this version that they mean is the actual, concrete political project confronting labor and the left right now. move accordingly

USAID’s website has been deleted, all that is left is a note saying all personnel are now on administrative leave and personnel outside the US are to be brought home. Completely illegal, no act of congress or even executive order was signed to dismantle the agency

So, we are deporting all our farm workers, flushing our summer farm water, putting huge tariffs on our biggest food importers, silencing and data purging the CDC in a Bird Flu epidemic and this is going to... checks notes ...lower prices for American consumers. Cool.

It’s my wife’s bday today and I decided to make sure she woke up with a big smile on her face. Long story short… I’m not allowed to have sharpies in the house anymore…

The USA has had two major plane crashes in the last 4 days. The USA had previously not suffered a major plane crash for 16 years. ‘DEI’ programs have existed for decades. So what was it that changed in the last 14 days or so to suddenly cause so many crashes?

Happy Black History Month, and yeah, we're still doing that.

This thread has everything! Muppets, ukuleles, chance celebrity encounters!

When Trump pardons people, he's not pardoning their best. He's pardoning people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

Regarding Trump's desire to end birthright citizenship by reinterpreting the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment, here's an interesting note of contrast by @lilymasonphd.bsky.social, political scientist at Johns Hopkins University:

This was a hopeful thread to wake up to.

Buckle up

Exactly.

Honestly, it seems like we need to keep re-saying this. Don't tolerate Nazis. Not once.

NEW: My staff just got ahold of this memo from House Budget Committee Republicans. It's lengthy and hard to digest but it tells us exactly how Republicans plan to sell out the American people for another round of tax cuts to the rich. We're breaking down the highlights as we go:

He will steal, sir, an egg out of a cloister. For rapes and ravishments he parallels Nessus. He professes not keeping of oaths; in breaking ’em he is stronger than Hercules. He will lie, sir, with such volubility, that you would think truth were a fool.
