Look, I LOVE that the turnout was so disproportionate but can we stop sharing fake images of old marches and celebrations and flagging them as the #NoKings protest? Look at the bare branches on those trees and the lack of signage. This was not June anywhere in North America. Stop sharing fake crap!

It's a bug for the people who know me, but a feature for the people who don't.
That makes this a poor replacement for Facebook, which at its best was about maintaining social relationships at a distance. But a solid Twitter replacement, which was for fostering broader conversations.

Everything I've read by Tepper has stuck with me - she challenges the reader, and makes us uncomfortable. But it pays off! When I recommend her I throw in an "of her time" caveat, (TW eugenics and misandry!) I do the same with Heinlein, who is definitely grosser, but somehow more broadly excusable.

Anyway smoking is flatly disgusting. I grew up around smokers and have been disgusted by it from the start. When I was 4 I threw my mom's lit cigarette in the trash. That's the only time I remember even touching a cig willingly.

Seems like a pretty healthy take. In my experience the folks who think you're judging them for not joining them are telling on themselves - and should probably reexamine their own relationship with substances.
I feel the same way about people who judge others for not becoming parents...
