I like to think two absolute goats gave their lives in direct exchange for making June 5th so historically wonderful. They have my eternal thanks ā¤ļø

To be fair the two men with the largest egos on the planet having a falling out was fairly predictable, I just didn’t expect it to be so funny.

Yeah, they’ve done ones with none at all. The exclusive title thing was really just them announcing a Developer Direct (or whatever it is Sony calls them, I don’t remember lol)

I actually hadn’t factored Twitter in but you’re right - it was a huge hub for industry buzz.

I was on the floor for multiple E3s and actually totally disagree - I fuckin loved it. But yes, it was exhausting 😭

Sony regularly does third-party or indie-specific showcases that don’t heavily feature first-party titles, though. That’s not unusual for them.

1. This rules 2. Also fair - it is a fuckin ton of information showing up in different places

Yeah, I am also at this point. I literally got paid to post on there and sharing links there did help me ā€˜professionally’, and even I stopped using it.

There are many game universes where that doesn’t make sense for the world/art design!

Both of your replies here make me want to ask: have you worked in AAA? I’ve only worked at one studio but my experience is wildly different to yours. They definitely didn’t throw endless money at a project until it shipped, for example. Which AAA studio was that at, out of curiosity?

I also had fantastic producers at Sony, so I’ve always wondered what bad producers are like lol. Though I’d say a producer’s job is more to keep a team on track and assist devs in reaching due dates, no?

There are actually good reasons these exists that aren’t loading! Even if you/players aren’t consciously aware of it, it’s useful to have a sort of ā€˜location break’. They definitively tell you you’re moving on from a previous location into a new one, basically.

It’s actually the opposite, for the most part. They often have game dev experience and are promoted into management due to seniority, despite having no actual people management skills or training. (I didn’t have this issue at Sony fwiw, both of my managers were game devs AND great managers)
