America needs better, more diversified rail stock. Among other things...

As someone who has also been to a lot of those same meetings and ran into the same inflexabIility, I share your frustration. I think the problem is that ST was designed to build light rail only (rebuild the interurban) and to appease too many political groups. Also zero leadership from the State.

That's a pretty bold statement. I'm going to assume you're not just a troll, mean well, and ask what you think should be done instead? I can assure you that the majority of the people who advocated for this project came from an honest desire to solve a transit problem.

Funny how he only wants to send other people to Mars...

A good reason to leave your helmet on if you came in via bicycle.

America: Sees what the rest of the world does, does it wrong instead. Claim that it just doesn't work and gives up. Rinse and repeat.

Been hearing angry morons yell about Canada, Europe, etc for years. As far as I can tell, they have an inferiority complex for places with functioning healthcare systems (among other things).

Eventually all drugstores will just CVS with empty isles and locked up deodorant.

Also an attack on anyone who lives or has lived in Japan.

They will never listen because they've lost all hearing in the din of their own self correctness.

Bacon on top (well, fancy bacon). Does need egg and cheese mixed in though to be a real carboara though I think.

Carobnara?

This is the right move. Faster, more reliable rail now will do more good than waiting for "someday" HSR.

I am imagining some tourist riding the wrong amtrak and getting on the wrong light rail to get to the wrong Lynnwood now...

Unfortunately, this arcade's days are numbered. It will be replaced with a stroad. I agree Seattle could use spaces like it though. Malls are seemingly failing, so covered outdoor shopping with apartments above would be an upgrade.

One train a day is hard to staff for. I think we need to increase route frequency first. Only one train per day is pretty bad for instate connectivity.

WSDOT owns the I-5 corridor, right? Seems like they could at least build a Seattle to Everett bypass track along the freeway (also using express lanes) for additonal Cascades/Sounder capacity. Freeway is not ideal, but the waterfront stops are poor access anyway LRT and Everett stn already there.

Seems surreal, but if its not fixed, I hope it is soon.

This seems unreal... is someone actively managing this or is it all just left as-is? This sounds incredibly dysfunctional...

basically, rail ROW is too expensive at the moment for one off services, but multiple services (amtrak, sounder, maybe even private airport expresses) might come closer to financial viability...

Personally, I think the state could have a decent start by reserving space for intercity rail via existing state owned land (even freeway ROW for sub bullet train intercity expresses.) If the state owned some standard rail, they could lease the same ROW to multiple services for a reasonable price.

almost certainly much more comprehensive.... and being frequently upgraded even now.

I remember an elected telling me "it doesn't matter how slow transit is as long as its not as bad as our worst traffic simulations" For the most part, the folks who lead in the US never plan to use transit themseves and consider it a "nice to have public service" not a necessary.
