Fossil claw prints found in Australia were probably made by the earliest known members of the group that includes reptiles, birds and mammals The findings suggest that this group β€” the amniotes β€” originated at least 35 million years earlier than previously thought https://go.nature.com/4j6rhMB

Happy birthday to the Legendary Sir David Attenborough, who is 99 years young today. Most of those years have been dedicated to the wonders of life on Earth, past and present Here's to 66 million years more πŸ₯‚

this is why capitalism will always be the enemy of art and our humanity...its greed to constantly produce a product for consumption is the driving force behind this, which goes hand in hand with a fascist's need to hinder critical thought...don't think and just eat slop

It's Trilobite Tuesday! The fossilized remains of Zacanthoides typicalis have been found in Middle Cambrian exposures throughout Utah & Nevada. With huge eyes and extended genal spines, this species was likely a predator that spent much of its existence patrolling the depths of the primeval seas.

also you all need to see this, because this is something I don't think *anybody* could predict for where this ad goes

My English major self is so fascinated by this story about the mysterious origin of the pronoun β€œshe”, which seems unprecedented in Old English. www.deadlanguagesociety.com/p/she-is-a-w...

Remember when you first learned about genetics at school? All those fascinating examples of human traits that are each apparently determined by just a single gene? Time to check in on some of your favourites to see how they’re doing. 🧬🧡πŸ§ͺ 1/n

Happy #FossilFriday! Excavations are officially over at the Substation Quarry until next fall, so I wanted to show off some of my favorite fossils that have been found! From dinosaurs to fish to plants, this ancient lake truly supported a grand and diverse amount of life. (1/2) #paleontology

βœŠπŸ½πŸ€πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½ WE DID IT!!! πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ€πŸ½βœŠπŸ½ The fossil site in St. George, Utah is now SAFE from the threat of being bulldozed! Every day the news is like β€œTrump has canceled the Federal program that prevents orphans from being shot to death by chainguns, it cost $20,000 a year and saves five orphans a day” and I’m like β€œoh that doesn’t sound good at all”

A beautiful day to glimpse inside the newly restored subway entrance to Crystal Palace park.

Have a baby triceratops to cleanse your timeline. I admit I have a thing for having dinosaurs frolicking after insects.

i think the burden is on people saying LLMs are useful and good to demonstrate that they're useful and good, rather than on people saying they suck and aren't useful to demonstrate that they suck and aren't useful

A new study finds that conservatives distrust science! Not shocking, I know, but it also found that they even distrust science that ostensibly supports their worldview, and the researchers couldn't find a single intervention that helped. πŸ§ͺ skepchick.org/2025/04/stud...

Colossal responded to Hank Green's video about their dire wolves. My biggest take-away is that the UICN definition of de-extinction, and the one Colossal is creating a proxy that can fill the ecological niche of the extinct species in that ecosystem. youtu.be/fJIl_R9xUuk?...

Great news. Washington State Athletic Association vote to ban trans people from sports fails by a single vote. It would not have been binding anyway, but this is good news for trans Washington Staters. mynorthwest.com/mynorthwest-...

#StGeorge and the Pterodactyl (1873), by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins of @cpdinosaurs.bsky.social fame, to illustrate his suggestion that #dragon 🐲 legends may have been inspired by encounters with living pterosaurs #StGeorgesDay Not sure how the octopus fits in πŸ™

1. Have you heard that "900 medals have been stolen from girls" by trans women? This stat is EXTREMELY wrong. It includes hot dog eating, jeopardy, and acting, and tripple counts some winners. S. Baum fact checks this extensively in our latest. Subscribe to support our journalism.

I just learned a few minutes ago from @robwords.bsky.social and @jesszafarris.bsky.social that sharks got their "name" from bad humans. You know.. like loan sharks and pool sharks came first and the name for the "pointy fish" were named after them. youtu.be/K2MaE9tn1rk?...

Haha! Love this letter from Douglas Adams to his US editor about not Americanising the text of Hitchhiker's Guide. πŸ‹πŸŒΈ

Looks like all 6 episodes of Walking With Dinosaurs will air 7- 9 PM Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, June 16-18, on PBS in the US as 2 episodes a night so buckle up for a 3 day dino marathon. Betting our Utah episode is on June 16! issuu.com/nine_magazin... @paleontologizing.bsky.social

As a historian of eugenics, I can tell you that the "taxes" thing is straight up from sterilization eugenics. Not only that, it represents an even more extreme form of early 20thC. eugenics that I study: euthanasia eugenics. They are tax burdens therefore they shouldn't exist. 1/2

BORBS! An Araripe manakin and a Mongolian ground jay on an Irritator and Velociraptor skull respectively. Back to more calming art with the Dinosaurs Survived! series. I started working on the next 5 while finishing the current set of 5. Oops. #paleoart #sciart
