I worked with a comics company that used a single issue and then the trade model. One of the biggest (of many) drawbacks was that you lost the 5-6 months of buzz that a great series can build. Each monthly issue is an advertisement for your book and brand and gives time for new readers to find you.

100%. One of wonderful things about a great TV show that only comes out weekly is the buzz helps the audience of a show build over time. So the finale can have triple the ratings of the pilot of a new series. When you binge, any buzz is gone in a couple of weeks. And ratings dive after the 1st ep.

It's a great list. One more you might consider adding... @conorhughes.bsky.social doing Void Rivals.

And this list closes with a shout out to Ray Chou and his series Glow. Ray's blog detailing how he launched Skies of Fire was the blueprint for so many of us back in the day. Ray always has incredible art in his books and Glow is no exception.

@comicuno.bsky.social Does so much to promote community. Her top ten KS videos have brought a slew of new eyes to creators. Kat and @philfalcowrites.bsky.social continue to showcase what's possible for indie creators. This is the 10th issue of LFLD. THE TENTH!!! www.kickstarter.com/projects/com...

@jaauerbach.bsky.social is working with one of my favorite artists @francinedelgado.bsky.social on their Blood of Atlantis series. Jon has a great substack about comics too with lots of helpful advice for creators.

@travisgibb.bsky.social works hard in discords and live streams to build community. The anthologies he puts out are wonderful opportunities for new and established creators. The latest Holiday Spirits is another fine example of this.

Clay Adams and @mccomicker.bsky.social have also been with me since the early days. I think this is one of the best cover's Mick has ever done. This is a really fun series and well worth checking out.

Starting with Morgana Pendragon from @mcholly1.bsky.social Madeleine was instrumental in the early stages of my comic book journey. I will aways support everything she does.

Is there a prelaunch that I... and everyone else on Blue Sky can sign up for?

Thankfully we have Kickstarter and other crowdfunding options now. Our character had a couple of anthology appearances in 2004 and 2005, and then we self published the first two issues in 2006 and 2010. Self-funding was difficult.

If you started in 2013 and you’re still putting out issues on Kickstarter, that’s incredible and should be commended. This ain’t no tiki tack rule. This was just to showcase series that are ongoing and have been for a long time.

Steph and I miss the criteria by one book 😂. We ran a Kickstarter for the third issue of Scarlet Huntress in 2013. We did issues 4, 5 and The Field Guide to Cryptids and Other Creatures between 2019 and 2022. We have volume 2 issue 1 running now.

I'm not sure if @seananmcguire.bsky.social was publishing them under Kickstarter, but if I recall correctly some of her publications began with crowdfunded stories.
@catvalente.bsky.social got a series of books out of a crowdfunded project, too, though it predated Kickstarter.

And it’s a great point that there’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. We’ve had success with individual issues while others have had success doing GNs. There’s an audience out there for long form comic storytelling.

We've done 5 issues of the order of dracula since 2017. at least a couple more in the pipeline

I'm sure I'm missing some of the OG series on Kickstarter. So if you have a comic that first funded in 2019 or earlier, has put out 5+ issues and has plans to put out more, please tag in the chat. I think it's important to know how successful one can be serializing comics on @kickstarter.com
