“Dissolving” the leadership of the USPS and “absorbing” the agency into the executive branch? Are you kidding me? We've already seen the effects of Trump trying to undermine USPS independence. Under Louis DeJoy, a Trump crony from his first term, Maine experienced chronic mail delays.

Federal funding is not a political bargaining chip. President Trump’s threat to cut off funding to Maine is not only an egregious abuse of power—it’s an unconstitutional act of coercion designed to force states into compliance with his extreme and discriminatory agenda.

Oversight is one of the most important roles Congress has. This Administration’s reckless purge of thousands of public servants is exactly the kind of action we need to be scrutinizing. Earlier today, I sent letters to the EPA, USDA, and Interior Department demanding greater transparency.

The Office of Community Planning and Development (OCPD) helps rebuild homes and communities after natural disasters. Now, the Trump Administration wants to slash OCPD’s workforce by a staggering 84%.   This, after saying they want to eliminate FEMA—the other agency that handles disaster-recovery.

So Elon Musk and his followers are openly attacking people with disabilities now? This makes my blood boil. Absolutely disgusting display from the unelected Billionaire in Chief.

The damage this President is doing to America’s influence and reputation is astounding. His latest move: suggesting that Ukraine is to blame for Russia invading it three years ago. He also called President Zelenskyy a dictator. (1/3)

Really saying the quiet part out loud here.

Over the past several days, President Trump and Elon Musk have been spreading blatant disinformation about Social Security, including the bizarre idea that millions of dead people are collecting benefits. Uh… no, they aren’t. (1/3)

Finally some good news.

Our neighbors to the north have always been welcome visitors to Maine. They’re also vital to our tourism industry. In 2022, Canadian tourists spent more than $400 million in our state. Now, some of them are feeling so unwelcome that they’re cancelling their trips here.

I’m proud of the work I’ve done to help small farmers, both here in Maine and across the country. That’s what makes the indiscriminate cuts happening right now at the USDA so heartbreaking (and enraging). People don’t realize the impacts this will have on our country’s farmers—and on all of us.

When it was first recognized in 1885, Presidents Day was about one man: George Washington (it’s still officially called Washington’s Birthday, in fact). When the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed in 1971, it made another great American—Abraham Lincoln—part of the celebration.

Another day, another round of indiscriminate firings under the Trump Admin. news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-...

The Department of Education (ED) is under attack by Elon Musk and DOGE. Dismantling ED would be a disaster for families and communities across the country—including here in Maine. Maine schools receive more than $250 million a year through ED (more than $2,000 per student).

I said what I said.

Every Valentine’s Day, Portland undergoes a brief and beautiful transformation, with red paper hearts adorning buildings throughout the city. For more than 40 years, the “Valentine’s Day Bandit” remained a mystery. In 2023, his identity was finally revealed—but only after he'd sadly passed away.

When President Trump and Republicans say their tax breaks will help you—DON'T BELIEVE THEM.   The only people this will help are their billionaire buddies and big corporations. And they'll pay for it by slashing Medicaid.

Since 2009, the CFPB has returned more than $20 billion to U.S. consumers—by going after the abusive practices of banks, mortgage companies, and other financial institutions. Now, Elon Musk and DOGE are trying to destroy it. They think it’s okay for banks and predatory lenders to rip people off.

The President's Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, sent a memo to DOT staff dictating how federal transportation funds should be allocated. The most alarming directive: that grant and loan programs should prioritize “communities with marriage and birth rates higher than the national average.”

Deborah Rutter and David Rubenstein understood what made the Kennedy Center so special: artistic integrity, political independence, and an unwavering commitment to America’s boundless cultural spirit. Their leadership and stewardship will be deeply missed. www.washingtonpost.com/entertainmen...

House Republicans have released their proposed budget. It’s as bad as I imagined. It puts a giant bullseye on health care coverage, while giving at least $4 *TRILLION* in tax breaks to billionaires and corporations. The American people need to know the stakes—and how Democrats are pushing back.

I’ll be joining @msignorile.bsky.social on SiriusXM Progress at 5:30 EST to talk about what’s happening on Capitol Hill, the looming debt-ceiling battle, and some of the questions (and frustrations) I heard from constituents during last night’s Telephone Town Hall. Tune in if you can!

Maine has long enjoyed a mutually beneficial trade relationship with Canada. We import more than $5B in Canadian goods each year. We also export $1.4B of our own. Today I met with New Brunswick Premier @susanholtnb.bsky.social to discuss the importance of maintaining a strong, stable partnership.

Inflation was a huge issue this election. People are right to be angry about rising prices. Today's news (google "inflation") doesn't help. But the idea that the Biden Administration is solely to blame is ridiculous. Many argue that Trump’s disastrous response to COVID was *the* driving force.

ICYMI: here's the audio from last night's Tele-Town Hall. We received so many thoughtful questions—on Elon Musk, potential threats to the ACA, what happens if Trump defies the courts, and much more. We'll host another town hall soon. Until then, stay strong, and keep making your voices heard.

Thank you to everyone who joined for our first Tele-Town Hall of 2025—all 3,000 of you. I expected a big turnout. But this was something else. Hopefully you found it helpful and informative. If you weren’t able to attend, we’ll be sharing a recording as soon as it’s available. (1/2)
