Them: student surveys are low Me: compared to what? Them: *blank stare* Me: compared to bench mark institutions? peer institutions? other standards?

For the most part, people are really bad at doing their own research. It's not their fault. They weren't trained in research methods particular to the thing they want to research, don't have access to paywalled scientific/academic journals, and don't have the deep knowledge background required.

I think I am being tested and perhaps I am failing

This week has been the universe non stop screaming at me that it's time to search for a new job

I've pushed back on a few friends' FB posts parroting that long thread about how it's academics' fault that no one listens to us. Here's the deal: I want my work to actually matter and make change, but that's not the purpose of publishing. Publishing is academic capitalism not a currency of change.

If you’d like to follow along with the DoJ report on FOIA usage itself the link is: www.justice.gov/oip/blog/sum... BLUF: USA continues to fail to carry out its statutory requirements of FOIA & the backlog of requests, & processing time of requests, continues to grow (resources maliciously denied)

personally would like to see every store show what part of the price increase is due to tariffs bc if these tariffs ever come down, i need to see that price go right back down

I'm working on push-ups and everything from my shoulder blades to wrists would like to protest this plan.

You are amazing 🩷

As an anthropologist, if the only thing I ever did all day was remind people that before the privatization and commodification of land humans had way more free time and peace of mind, it would still not do a dent in how deep this myth has burrowed into people's colonized minds like a parasite

I check the little screen, I check the big screen, I check the watch screen, I check the tablet screen. I check the screen that reminds me of the good times, I check the screen that reminds me of the better times.

Well the vitamin C chewable tabs are disgusting, good things I only have 59 to go

I apparently didn't turn the dryer on on Sunday, so that's fun

I'm sorry if reading along isn't why you follow me, but I'm gearing up for the first few dissertation chapters so there will be a lot of reading... Next up is A Pedagogy of Kindness by @cjdenial.bsky.social

The kind of content I am here for :). I am equally awkward and I can totally relate. Zoom interviews/meetings are the worst because my hands are doing a dance as I speak, and I keep checking to see if I haven’t magically turned the camera on.

The conclusion here is very good!

Gov. Hochul announced a budget “agreement” that could effectively criminalize masking and protest in New York. She’s hoping we’ll give up. But there is NO deal yet. Join us Weds at noon for a #NoNYmaskBan phone zap! bit.ly/DontCrimMasks

Significant injunction in the Eastern District of California barring the Border Patrol (among other things) from stopping people without reasonable suspicion that they're in the country illegally and barring warrantless arrests without probable cause of escape without a warrant (as required by law).

I'm gonna make dinner and maybe feel better about the world after I have eaten.

In the town-wide FB group someone posted that their child is separating from the service and is looking for work. I posted a link to husband's workplace, who hires a good number of vets, and said as much. Other people are not so helpful! "the school district is hiring" THANKS SO MUCH MARV

I find it truly amazing how temperature (hot or cold) can absolutely destroy my tolerance for stimulation. My ideal temp is like, 45% humidity from 68-72F. Today it was like 80F and 90% humidity in my building.

Well, based on the forecast I should GTFO before 4pm today

Here's an oped I wrote weighing in on the federal food safety debacle. I should point out that e coli, listeria, and bird flu are our rewards for unsafe food. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

I just told husband this, his response "well, you're not going to do that" Being off antihistamines for 3-5 days would not only be miserable, but it could take weeks to get my dermatographia under control again. And, my mostly-controlled dermatographia makes me ineligible for a scratch test.

Bahahaha. My newest allergist referral wants me to refrain from all antihistamines for 3-5 days prior to my screening visit for a skin test. Oh no. That's not going to happen. I was like "I'm not referred for a skin test" and got "that's what they do on the first visit". Right.

Maybe if I stare at this program long enough, it'll contain enough requirements to meet transfer standards...

ok y'all, trying to track down an old reference and hitting some issues the journal/magazine is called "Animals", but it's not the MDPI one but an older one that was on volume 14 in 1972. the only hit i'm getting is the Mass SPCA magazine of that name, but it's clearly not the right one any ideas?
