personally would like to see every store show what part of the price increase is due to tariffs bc if these tariffs ever come down, i need to see that price go right back down

Should be cheaper biofuel, pork, textured vegetable protein, chicken, etc for one season, anyway. No way farmers are going to invest in next year's seeds this fall, though.
Many of them won't be left standing by then. And bailouts might help for one season, but their markets are gone forever. China will never trust the US again.
I think you have just explained why no company will show the cost of the tariffs. Because once the market accepts that price why lower it, that’s how capitalism works.
It’s never going back down. As soon as those tariffs start getting paid that’s over. That’s the official new price because the market was flipped in such a way that the goods commanded that price. So that’s there permanent value moving forward.
Possibly because it will hide the lies from blotus of price coming down, when it will show big businesses ripping consumers off by nudging up prices and blaming the tariffs, go to a dollar store buy something for a dollar then next week it's $1.10c
Literally. Just show us the actual price of the product and add tariff fee on top, just like tax. It should be transparent, not some vague price increase! Fabletics has been doing that since September (10%) and now Temu is adding it on just like tax or shipping, etc…
So I’m curious, what would you do if they didn’t because all the price increases from “supply-chain issues”never came down? We need a country wide general strike/boycott to end a lot of this shit.
Many stores in Canada have a T on the product pricing to show items affected by tariffs now. This needs to be mandated in the U.S. too so it's not a guessing game.
I’d like my local craft breweries to include the prices too.
“We’d love to sell you a six pack for $12, but aluminum cans have gone up $3 and our supply chain impacts from the tariffs are making our suppliers charge us an extra $2.”
Agreed. Target Costco automotive stores Walgreens all of them should add the “Vat” tax amount. Keep it front and center in case they try to blame it on Biden.
Prices are jacked up now. Some probably to cover future costs but not everything that's been jacked up has been tariffed so you know some companies are just screwing us, Walmart.
That’s the problem. They will not go back down . Just like restaurants didn’t price adjust after Covid. Just like they increased again due to high egg prices.
It's funny that Trump doesn't want the tariffs itemized, because not itemizing it will make it easier for retailers to price gouge customers and push more of the blame for that to Trump
Meanwhile in America, de facto MARTIAL LAW has effectively just been order by EO last night. Local law enforcement has now been LITERALLY weaponized by the federal government and can now be under forced control of Felon47. This is CODE RED Alarm blaring!!!
I wonder if there’s something to this: if we mass report gouging to our states’ attorneys general, they have to investigate. States with smart attorneys general will then require retailers to itemize tariffs to prevent abuse.
I wonder if this goes hand in hand with the manipulation of the stock market? Why did I even add a question mark? Of course it must be part of the plan to increase the wealth of the wealthy.
It’s just a ploy. Thousands are boycotting Amazon so Bezos comes up with this tariff idea and Trump fakes being upset so people will start using Amazon again.
When Germany switched from Deutsche Mark to Euro, the term “Euro teuero” (“Euro expense”) was coined. The currency calculation invariably raised prices, not lowered.
This is despite our arsehole Linkdin spambot government promising electing them would force rental prices down, when in fact, just gave investment property owners billions in tax cuts which they then did not pass on to renters, shockingly enough..
ah yes, that is where the previous govt embarked on a huge social housing build which this new crowd have just cancelled because property investors were having a sook.
I moved into my current rental at NZ$490/wk in June 2021. It is now NZ$620/ week, but do go off.
yea, give investors billions in tax cuts. So what we just had a major regional hospital cancelled and schoolies are having to eat Austerity Meals, right? ..
Fuck dem kids.
I like taxes. They pay for shit I need like infrastructure and social good. Tax me more.
So just build more. If people want vacant homes and airbnbs, let them have that. If people want a place to live, let people build houses for people to live. Why would building enough housing to meet demand not solve the problem?
I live on an island in the middle of the pacific ocean that happens to be a huge tourist destination, so more former social housing blocks get onsold to developers and ABB clowns so Americans can come here and whinge that everything closes at 10.
Meanwhile fam of 4 living in a Toyota
because the wealthy intentionally buy them up to inflate the value. we could house every houseless person in the country and still have excess housing.
You know that won't happen plus any competitor who pays no tariffs will up their prices as well. Why wouldn't they? We are well on our way to (at least) a recession. People will stop buying, traveling, & companies will start laying off workers... they've already stopped hiring & expanding.
Yes, I remember supply chain issues raising prices and now everything is still high. Thankfully I’m old and don’t need to buy much but I care about others.
We need a price label like the nutritional labels. Like here's what we bought it for here's our labor/shipping fees, and here's the 300% we mark it up on top of those to buy a new yacht
This is the most humongous CORPORATE GRIFT on record!
Prices went up right after the election, too, and these "tariffs" will disappear but, presto change-o, the song will remain the same and
THE COST OF GOODS WILL NEVER GO DOWN!
They never have.
Only the minimum wage stays the same...
Greedy MFers.
Unfortunately, price increases are largely a one-way ratchet in our consolidated oligopolistic markets. They are, for sellers, a helpful real world test of demand elasticity.
… well, Derek Guy, for one brief fleeting moment, space ace, Jeff Bezos, was going to do just that. Then Commander Salamander called him and said … WTF ACE? And Camelot on the Potomac was gone and so too your dreams …
45/47 was pleased "...after the e-commerce giant pushed back on reports that it was planning to display how much tariffs add to costs." EVERY RETAILER NEEDS TO LIST THE TARIFF PORTION OF THE PRICE. 45/47 was soo happy that Amazon backed down, but it won't matter if everyone else does it!
Surprise Surprise Surprise the billionaire chicken shit. Can't upset the nazi regime-istration. Or you just might find the head of your favorite horse in your bed.
Worse are so-called tariff surcharges that some stores/businesses add to all purchases across the board without regard to whether individual consumers are buying tariff affected items or from where.
Shipping to get there, fuel cost for the truck, yearly maintenance for the truck (average is fine, i get it), hourly pay for the employees working that section X [a decimal value to showcase how this factors into final product price], all of it.
Amazon was planning on doing the right thing by displaying tariff costs and then when the Liar and Chief calls them out for it Bezo folds.
These gutless oligarchs have no spine!
They will never go back down. The greedy will be sure to capitalize on this too - even things that's aren't affected by tariffs to go up as well, claiming it's... due to ..... tariffs. You can count on that.
Costco increased the price of TP and paper towels by $10 per shrink-flated package just before the tariffs kicked in, and those products aren't even subject to tariffs. It was such a blatantly greedy move.
Until corporate greed is regulated, the cost will go up & wages will remain the same. No economic system works with unfettered greed. If things continue as they are now, capitalism will fail.
shows how sensitive little Donnie is to bad news.... his tariffs are just a tax on the US consumer... but the tries to hide that ... even pretending or letting it be thought that overseas countries pay the tariffs not eh US consumer!
What business wouldn't want to display the tariff portion of the price? It's the only way to let customers know that the business isn't ripping them off... Trump's tariffs are.
That's the key - they blamed Biden for high prices, when it was, in fact, corporate greed post pandemic that raised prices.
Case Study: Kroger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gyE8ulCWYA
bc recouping pandemic loss was an OBVIOUS hypothesis, and ALL of my news would not shut up about the K-Shaped Recovery: how the cries of inflation and price data were absolutely not matching the actual economic data, particularly in consumer goods markets.
I remember when MAGA got worked up about Kroger being accused of gouging. Every one of them said, "You know their profit margin is only 1.2%, right? Why do you hate capitalism?" AFTER Kroger admitted it.
If the cult ever snaps out of it I will NEED to know exactly how it happens.
That's good to know (although sad of course)! I've only seen them double down on trump no matter what happens, including death from Covid (the imaginary illness that people die of)
I read that turning off Fox and the rest for only 2 weeks will do it. Too bad it's in all our mil bases&waiting rooms

A lot of the damage done is relatively long term. It’s hard to persuade suppliers and customers that you’re suddenly reliable again.
Friends and allies are alienated, and being more so every damn day!
We have calculators on our phone. We can all figure it out. Just because Trump doesn’t want the tariffs shown doesn’t mean we won’t notice that we’re paying more for the same item we buy monthly.
The average American Can’t afford to buy a TV or other electronic goods with a tariff of 145%. You guy will be buying the equivalent of 2.45 TV’s for every TV sold. That’s crazy and definitely not sustainable.
Stores, and even Amazon currently show the amount of sales taxes on your receipt when you make a purchase, Tariffs are just a sales tax, stores absolutely must be transparent and show consumers how much of their purchase is taxes.
Sort of. Prices for consumer goods typically are tuned to maximize profit between volume of sales and margin on items. If you raise prices too high to increase margins on individual sales people either look for a substitute or go to a competitor, thus losing sales.
Consumable goods or services with inelastic demand.
Food for example, people have to eat, and although they are flexible in what they eat to some degree you have to eat something. Capital has figured this out and the food industry is both highly consolidated and rife with informal cartels. Kroger
And other large retailers can collude to raise prices on goods to increase margins without hurting sales volume as long as other companies are doing the same thing.
TLDR: Companies with vital goods like food want to shape consumer behavior to maximize profits that consumers wouldn't tolerate before.
I always thought grocery stores calculated what WIC, Food Stamps and Social Security could afford people so they can move product.
I'm not arguing with you.
I was raised in the north east of boston where we had Market Basket/Demoulas where the prices for necessities are set properly
Good luck with that. 9/11 increased airline prices, didn't go down. COVID increased airline prices, didn't go down. Telcos did away with cheap iPhones with a plan commitment, didn't go down, etc., etc. America: screwing its people out of money since 1776.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure in those cases, no one showed on the receipt the reason for the increased cost (I know in those cases a lot was price gouging), so to me, literally pointing out the additional cost and labeling as tariffs would radically shift sentiment & consumers would be livid
In the case of Amazon, everyone should put a ton of items in their shopping cart ASAP then once Amazon automatically shows your items with a price increase, flood social media showing a screengrab of it and the hashtag “trump tariffs”
Change it from Manufacturers Sales Tax they said, go to Goods and Services Tax they said. The retailers will drop their prices they said. Uh uh that’s not what happened. Kept the prices the same and pocketed the difference. Prices go up, rarely come down. Don’t be fooled.
@governorwalz.mn.gov @gavinnewsom.bsky.social @governor.ny.gov @stateofnewjersey.bsky.social how about requiring online retailers selling in your state include the tariffs as a separate line from sales tax? https://bsky.app/profile/peterbakernyt.bsky.social/post/3lny5ly4ij22r
He wanted to play chicken with a bully. Jeff could have made more money in the long run making a stand and getting other big brands to stand up but like most people, Jeff doesn't want to get hit.
As a business owner that manufactures I can tell you that the prices will never come back down to the previous amount. My cost will never go back to pre-tariff $
That's not a feature of predatory capitalism. And notice how Bezos bent the knee yet again when there were rumors AMZ would show tariff charges at checkout whenever you would buy something on that platform.
Which is why they won’t do this. Most likely, the products not affected by tariffs so much will also cost more with prices not going down when tariffs ease.
Prices don’t go down. I’m sorry. Trump fucked you. Even without the tariffs, prices are set. Any company with shareholders only cares about making sure the shareholder don’t make less profit today than they did yesterday. Sad times.
It would actually show MAGA what their Grand Poopba is doing to raise prices. It shows them exactly how much more they’re paying on everyday things. It also holds retailers accountable when Tariffs are removed. Excellent idea 💡 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
that'd mean the sellers would make less $. when supply chains were restored after covid prices SHOULD have decreased. They didn't because sellers decided that since customers were paying higher prices already, they'd continue to do so. I cut my shopping be a LOT at that point.
Every now and then, I am reminded of how Congress destroyed Carter's windfall plan to keep oil companies from reaping unholy profits from the Oil Crisis and I am mad all over again.
That's not how capitalism works! Anytime a seller can raise a price on his goods, 99.999% of the time the price will NOT BE REDUCED if the market returns to "normal"!
Look at potato chips. They reduce the amount of chips per bag, enlarge the bag size, then increase the price by a few pennies!
I agree but after paying the prices plus, the masses will become accustomed to the prices and not think twice. You see it with gas prices - if it was truly a burden more would be taking mass transit or other alternative means
Mass transit, def not widely available or convenient, also very time consuming. And how do you get groceries home for a family of any size? Not to mention any larger items.
I agree mass transit isn’t available for everybody (see remote counties without such means). But the places that do have mass transit utilized daily by the masses work just fine. Not perfect, not at all.
They won't go back down, they didn't after the pandemic and they won't after this. Once people get used to prices being high it's just another way to line their greedy pockets
A fascist regime only lets you know what they want you to know. All the fascist has to do is proclaim it's a law that you can't list tarrif taxes. Now, the company has to follow the newly made-up law or lose its license/business/building/life savings or whatever else the regime wants to take.
Like the “gas fee” that snuck into delivery fees with pizza has never gone away since the ‘00s…when they were first added solely due to “raising oil prices”.
I am interested to see how Mr. Bezos reacts to Mr. Trump chastising him for listing the cost of tariffs on prices for Amazon. I am fascinated that it comes on the same day he called reporters and polls terse from the Washington Post "negative criminals".
So I've watched an amazing video from Gamers Nexus, they were talking about this exact thing. I do not believe a lot of tariff affected items will ever decrease, simply due to that market uncertainty. Why lower prices when you may need to adjust them up again if this kind of stuff keeps happening?
loved it when i walked into my local small grocer and it was festooned with signs about their "lower prices" when in fact they'd gone WAY up. stopped shopping there immediately. i don't spend my money where they think i am a mark.

There should be plenty of pork and soybeans though.
Once the tag goes up, it only ever comes down if there’s a sale.
Prices never go down.
This holiday, I want to ensure that every coal-filled stocking I purchase is made in America. 🤑
Trump
Doesn’t want businesses to share the tariff. He & Bezos are feuding about this. Trump doesn’t want him to post the tariff to consumers
