Only 5 things? These movies epitomize summer movies. They aren’t supposed to make sense. They are supposed to be fireworks shows. Bright, noisy, and fun while you watch them.

Does anyone else think that for the past 29 years every time they sat down to write one of these the writers wished that DePalma and Koep hadn’t named Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt? It’s just not that cool of a character name like Bond or Indiana Jones.

I mean, obviously “yay, Elon lost” and all that. But, doesn’t anyone else think we shouldn’t allow money from outside a state for a statewide election? Or from outside a district? I don’t care if your name is Musk or Soros. Making the “entry fees” for public office so high seems very undemocratic.

I’ve been returning to Ridley Scott’s THE MARTIAN again and again lately and it was only until recently I understood its hold on me. It’s about a reality that seems to be slipping away where smart is valued, where facts are valued, where science is valued. It’s glorious.

I recently watched INCENDIES (2010), and that sealed the deal. For me, Denis Villenueve is the most exciting director in the world right now — SICARIO, PRISONERS, ARRIVAL, DUNE I & 2 — and my personal favorite, BLADE RUNNER 2049. His films are consistently both high art and high entertainment.
