Van Hollen: "This case is not only about one man, as important as that is. It is about protecting fundamental freedoms and the fundamental principle in the Constitution for due process that protects everyone who resides in America."

Van Hollen: I should also just say, I mentioned the fake margarita, they actually wanted to have the meeting by the side of the pool in the hotel. They want to create this appearance that life was just lovely for Kilmar. Which of course is a big, fat lie.

the united states—the most powerfulcountry in the world—has now become the most dysfunctional, kleptocratic, and unfree political system of the advanced industrial democracies. by far. www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-a...

Not due process.

The innocence of Abrego Garcia, Merwil Gutiérrez, and an estimated 90% of the people sent to El Salvador proves this was never about “criminals”. It’s about racism. It’s about state terror. It’s about dehumanization. Fascism takes hold when people stay silent. It’s up to all of us to speak up.

Thank you, Sen. Van Hollen, for standing up not just for Kilmar Abrego Garcia and his family but for every American who believes in due process. We can't stop speaking out until he is home and this administration is forced to stop its horrific practice of kidnapping people without charge or trial.

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

Hes not even an ICE agent!

Oh, L👀K! One of Tom Homan’s Brown Shirts forgot to cover his face during this illegal raid Online sleuths have ID’d him as Michael Meyer, he commonly goes by name Lewis Arthur, and his group, Veterans on Patrol (VOP) is associated with Oath Keepers hey, internet, do your thing— make him famous 🤬

Can the president fire the fed chair? No. The fact that this might happen anyway, despite it being inconsistent with legal precedent, is how you know that the rule of law is weakened to the point of being unable to hold up Democratic institutions. The uncertainty of the act occurring is damaging.

Secretary Kennedy owes Maryland answers. I led Team Maryland in pushing Sec. Kennedy for answers on thousands of Maryland workers fired at HHS-at a time when measles is spreading, avian flu is proliferating through our livestock, and cities are reeling from fentanyl overdoses.

The administration is trying to gut Medicaid—putting 811,000 Nevadans at risk. I’ve been visiting health centers across my district. I’ve heard the fear. These cuts are already creating chaos. This isn’t policy. It’s cruel. And I’m fighting back.

“In dealing with this Administration, with its maximalist conception of executive authority and its contemptuous attitude toward the judiciary, the Justices are being played for fools.” The Chief Justice can put a stop to this contemptuous conduct. I hope he will. www.newyorker.com/news/the-led...

The Trump-Supreme Court battle is not really the crisis. The crisis is here now. Trump is enacting an insidious coordinated attack on our institutions of democratic accountability, designed to crater democracy before next fall. 1/ A long 🧵to explain the plan & how we stop it.

Seems bad that the new U.S. Attorney who is threatening to lock up Trump’s political opponents was working for Russia before getting his new job. But maybe it’s just me.

Before the election, I warned that there is no safe haven under authoritarianism. If they can ship Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a foreign prison—accused of no crime, with no trial—they can do it to anyone. Americans of conscience must stand against this now.

Skipped the paperwork. Ignored the court order. Broke the law. Ignored the constitution. This ain’t immigration policy. This is straight-up defiance of the rule of law.

PROBABLE CAUSE to hold TRUMP REGIME in CONTEMPT OF COURT:

I've seen enough. Donald Trump is not abiding by a lawful Supreme Court ruling. As a member of Congress, I fully support impeaching him. NOW.

Let’s be clear. When the President defies the Supreme Court, it is the role of Congress to remove him from office. Full stop.

Republicans are trying to steal an election in North Carolina. They have been laying the groundwork for five months, and unless the federal courts intervene, they just might succeed. If they do, it could usher in a new era of election subversion in future contests across the country.

I see it. I have lived it. 83 years ago, the U.S. government turned upon a group of its own citizens and residents and sent them to internment camps without due process. I was there among them. American fascism is back. It is here. It is now.

Yeah, imagine having a direct democracy.

Without Social Security, 1 in 3 Americans would end their lives in poverty. We’re not going to let Republicans rob seniors of their earned retirement and leave you on the side of the road. Hands off!

NEW: Trump to USA: There is no rule of law. Today, Trump signaled he would not abide by court decisions and return to the US a Maryland father who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador. He won't even ask El Salvador to send him back. This is cruel & dangerous. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

When Trump and Musk tout how much money they're saving by gutting cancer research and Social Security services, know this: Their IRS cuts will cost $500 billion in tax revenue just this year. That's more than half the Defense budget. None of their destruction is actually about saving money.

DC Bar Members - Remember to submit your ballots for the elections. Stop Bondi's takeover. Brad

No one should be above the law, most especially the President. Ignoring a Supreme Court ruling to facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return isn't just cruel; it's unconstitutional. They're saying the quiet part aloud — if they get away with it now, they'll do it to anyone.

I have the same suspicion. Both this and the decision to send planes to El Salvador on March 15 in spite of Boasberg's order seem to come from him. Then he goes out and shrieks on TV, including on TV that SCOTUS watches.

I guess it’s good to know that the next Democratic president can ship Trump and his cabinet off to a Central American prison without a trial and we won’t ever have to worry about them coming back.

He’s threatening media companies who are critical of him. He’s talking about sending Americans to foreign prisons. He’s signing executive orders to investigate former staff members who spoke out against him. He’s defying the Supreme Court. Don’t you see what’s happening here?

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

Most chode in a sea of them.

They violated a court order to keep the AP out of the event where they publicly violated a different court order

What we saw today was two jumped up thugs and their bootlicking sychophants laughing at the US Constitution, the supreme court, and the idea that anyone can stop them from doing anything they want www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

A day after Russia committed war crimes in Ukraine, and Trump is again attacking Zelenskyy – sounding indistinguishable from a commentator on Russian state TV. And repeating the Kremlin lie that Ukraine started this war. Trump casts shame on himself and our country.

In any democracy, the lawyers are the guardrails. With America heading toward autocratic rule, we see how some firms have chosen. But it isn’t too late for others in the profession to choose to keep our democracy. I challenge all my students: keep the faith! news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/...

Donold is deporting innocent people to foreign prisons. It is time for God to unleash the 7 plagues again. Thou shalt let My people go.

Remember Fiona Hill? She’s now sounding the alarm again: “We’re definitely on a path toward full-on state repression. There’s no question about it. I’ve thought about this for an extraordinarily long time.” When Fiona speaks, we should all listen.

We’ve heard this all before from you, Mr. Miller. In your world, immigrants are to blame for everything. And now you’re willing to make it harder for 80% of married women to vote over your anti-immigrant obsession. Just own it.

Warren: "Congress has a job right now, and that is to step up and take this authority away from Donald Trump."
