Looks like this Trump tweet was pleading aimed at Ukraine to get the Ukrainians to accept a deal that he has worked out with Putin. The deal is a Putin dream. Ukraine must legally hand over Crimea, gets no occupied territory back and is barred from NATO.

WNYC Studio's On the Media podcast endured 12 hours of listening to the right-wing media. This episode is very insightful. We can understand how people get captured in this web and can't get out. www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm...

🧵 Does social media actually harm young people — or is that just vibes? The science is clearer than you’ve been told. And the strongest evidence now comes from… economists. This thread kicks off a series you need to see.👇 #SocialMediaHarmSeries

Straight talk from a Japanese representative about the Trump tariffs. Listen to what he says!! #MomSky #Voices4Victory

US President Donald Trump is considering recognizing the occupied Crimean peninsula as part of Russia. If so, it would be a huge victory for Vladimir Putin. ( He is a fucking idiot) www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/apne...

Sen. Chris Van Hollen said he was denied entry to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador when he tried to check on the “health and wellbeing” of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia.

Hearing the same from a direct source. People in Americorps being told they're done. It's over. No notice.

"After nearly five hours, he and his wife were released. They are now pursuing legal action. "It's not about the immigrants," his sister, told NBC10 Boston. "It's coming to us Americans, and it's going to go after all of us." www.nbcboston.com/news/politic...

Lessons to learn from US collapse: support local news, support investigative reporting, keep your public broadcasting going.

The DOJ lawyer who made the mistake of answering the court's questions about Abrego-Garcia candidly (eg yes he was mistakenly deported, a fact the Administration already has acknowledged), which got him put on administrative leave, has now been fired, ending his 15-year DOJ career..

Every American should know that the Chamber of Commerce and American Bankers Association literally teamed up with the Trump administration on Monday to end the CFPB rule limiting big credit card providers to an $8 late fee. Today, in light of the agreement, the rule was vacated.

Yup, Mark Paoletta — yes, one of the two people you might not have known in the creepy Clarence Thomas, Harlan Crow, and Leonard Leo painting — is the first name on the filing, as the "chief legal officer" at CFPB currently.

Constituents to Chuck Grassley: "Are you bringing back that guy from El Salvador?" Senior Citizen: “If I get an order to pay a ticket to pay $1200 and I just say ‘no’, does that stand up? Because he just got an order from the Supreme Court and he just said ‘screw it’” “I’M PISSED!”

Why is Nayib Bukele is so popular with the US right? Meet Damian Merlo, a 50-year-old Miami-based lobbyist has become, as the Central American newspaper El Faro put it last year, “a sort of ambassador to the Trump-aligned Right” for Latin American leaders.

Bone chilling. A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0. 1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.

Proud to be among sixty-nine faculty members at Rutgers Law School who signed on to the Harvard letter (h/t @beidelson.bsky.social) affirming our commitment to the rule of law. And I want to highlight something unique our school is doing that I hope will become a model for other schools.

Hours ago, @politico.com revealed that DOGE is working with DHS on automating mass deportation efforts — likely explaining why many US citizens, green card holders, and even a Canadian (in Canada) got threatening emails last night terminating “your parole” and telling them to leave the US in 7 days.

Some personal news: the Department of Homeland Security has given me, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, seven days to leave the U.S. Does anyone know if you can get Italian citizenship through great-grandparents?

I’m not kidding; this is DOGE at work; multiple US citizens getting notices that they just leave the country because USCIS is revoking their humanitarian parole. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Wow. This is the full document submitted by Rubio against Mr. Khalil invoking INA 237(a)(4)(C). The standard in immigration court is extremely deferential; a judge must accept this so long as it is “facially reasonable and bona fide.” But this is so threadbare that it might not even satisfy that.

🚨 SCOOP 🚨 DHS is asking IRS to locate **7 MILLION** suspected undocumented immigrants using confidential tax records. It’s a massive escalation by DHS to use the tax system for mass deportation. IRS officials are aghast, say it’s likely illegal.

I have signed the following letter with 103 of my colleagues from UCLA Law. It is modeled closely on the Harvard Law letter. Solidarity with all other faculty willing to speak out for the rule of law.

This was a choice. Fine won by 8 pts in the district Mike Waltz won by 30 pts just 5 months ago. That the NYT frames it as “easily won” is a leading reason we are where we are. Headlines matter. Framing matters.

Quite moving hearing Booker just now saying why he started this and referring to his constituents asking him to do more, do things differently, to take risks, and then referencing John Lewis. Sounds like he took the advocacy to heart.

NEW — This AM former HHS staffers confronted Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) about slashing budgets and staff, per video shared with me by Mack Schroeder, a former Budget Analyst for the Office of the Secretary.  Banks tells Schroeder he "probably deserved" to lose his job "because you seem like a clown."

What if disinformation wasn’t just a campaign tactic… but part of the infrastructure? That’s the idea behind structural disinformation. And once you see it, you can’t unsee it👇 #StructuralDisinformation #ElectionIntegrity #DisinfoPlaybook

NOAA’s office of Oceanic Atmospheric Research has had IT and other support contracts canceled in the last day or so that will fundamentally affect its operation. One source there said “It will seriously hurt our ability to improve weather forecasting and climate projections.”

A gay makeup artist named Andry José Hernández Romero was among the Venezuelans President Trump deported to El Salvador. Andry’s offense? Having the wrong tattoos.
