Finally, this Sylvester McCoy tale was intended to "bring down Thatcher's government", according to Andrew Cartmel.
It's also a shockingly good tale about resisting and embracing joy and sadness.
(Raks Geek should develop a Kandyman routine. Seriously) /10

This Colin Baker #DoctorWho story needs a content warning for extreme violence.
Yes, it is a "satire" on violence in television, but it also speaks to corporate influence on government.
(Seriously, it can be a rough watch) /9

OK, this Davison story is pure 80s: an Eastern Bloc against a Western Bloc...and Silurians are involved.
Yes, it's considered a poor story, but I couldn't find a better one to encapsulate his era. /8

Ah, Robert Holmes...whether you think this is a satire of the British tax system...
or Holmes' frustration with the BBC...
this is a good story focused around workers' rights and capitalism. /7

OK, now for Tom Baker of the MBE...
Nation's *other* Daleks-as-Nazis story is blatant - so much that the production team had to remove some references.
It also inspired "The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar" from the Season Nine (Capaldi) opener /6

When someone tells you that current #DoctorWho is too "woke"...
have them search the name "Malcolm Hulke".
This story involves bringing England back to a "Golden Age"...and highlights some interesting political dynamics /5

And now, onto Pertwee with the final story of his first season, "Inferno"
Think of it as the British "Mirror, Mirror" or "the BBC version of DARK SHADOWS' Parallel Time story...
except with green werewolves. /4

And here's another #DoctorWho story, "lost" for years before being recovered in 2013.
It may be a bit dated, but Troughton's dual portrayal of the Doctor and a slippery power-mad dictator is worth checking out /3

Although this is an animated reconstruction, this Troughton story feels *very* prescient about workers, mind control, etc...
and it's not the giant-crabs-attack-a-base story you think it is. /2
