I am a real person. My workplace has a very strict real-name social media policy, so I use this. United fan and match goer, currently just occasional. New music. Cider bore. Probably a left(ish) world view.

Nor me. It looks really bad though. The masks are a tell: those are dudes that are doing a task that they are ashamed of. Double points for the nob that thought his best possible look for this moment was a trucker cap, worn back to front.

Beckham is a proper Red. But he wanted to leave more than he said at the time. I don’t mind that with any United player, it’s a club not a cult fs. Player though - loads to his game off the ball and a right bit of dog in him too.

I’d honestly be happy with the ciders in 2T being actually chilled by 2.30

Always overlooked in the ‘best of’ chats. One of the very best players in midfield I’ve ever seen. He shouldn’t have joined the dips, but Fergie was really graceless about him and that still pisses me off. Solid argument he was the world’s best midfielder 90-95 (inc Keane).

You any leaning toward one or other? Bath for the romantics?

Your States of Play book bashed me around the head for a week. WTF out loud moments. As good as I’ve read in years (and I read into that space a lot). Will follow on Insta shortly.

It’s quite the list: Sancho, Rashy, Antony, Garno - all wingers, all apparently not fit for system or team. At one time or another they’d be valued at £500m between them. I’d like to see Rashy back too because he’s far from finished to my eye. But I think that ship has sailed.
comment in response to post
Yeah I get that. Sancho has probably *already* made enough for any of his kids, grandkids or great grandkids not to have to work. Ever. That’s not natural or healthy. And I don’t blame young men in that scenario. I think footballers are paid way too much as it is, but that’s a whole other debate!

I cringe at myself looking back. And I’ll never forget seeing him at OT for the first time - a few close control skills but slow and lightweight. Bit of a shock. Mentally slinking silently into my seat. Not my finest hour as a United fan the whole thing. This is the Fesshole account isn’t it?

I spent the first summer that we didn’t sign him raging at United recruitment. But I don’t think I’d seen him actually play a match ffs. Maybe 70 mins for England once? Think we’ll see him as the first of the YouTube highlight type signings. Maybe we’re all guilty: he just wasn’t that good.

Liked a tackle too. That is always a grade up in my book

If Keane played in this team he’d be sent off every week.

Yeah but they have proper fans too (with all that that means). Hate that we think of Bourgogne type lads like that - not to blame any more than we are for Joel Glazer. I was properly shoed by some Inter pricks on a tram once but nonetheless I’d like them to win.

I wonder whether PSG’s line up is the most truly global, ever to be in a ECL Final? I mean this positively btw.

This is an excellent point.

Toni was good tbf. Underrated. Owen was a mad signing, I’ve kinda scrubbed him from my memory actually.

Take this down mate
comment in response to post
Spot on. I’d be happy (in current circumstances, all relative) with a GK upgrade and one proper goal-scorer this summer actually. And if it was one or other, a GK.

Forest too

Ha the timing is spot on

100% this. His assurance always looked fragile to me, from the first time I saw him. But the guys head has clearly completely gone now. I think it’s a huge factor in how badly the team has played generally.

Happening too

Sacked for talking back!

And if the answer to that is no, then we have a problem. Because that system lives or dies on having freakishly good WBs. United won’t be able to get that £calibre of WB in. So the approach to tactics and selections need to reflect that hard fact. That’s where it’s getting hard to defend Amorim.
comment in response to post
And on that basis, I’m less certain about Amorim. Our best young players (Mainoo, Garno) have clearly gone backwards in the last year. Maz and Dorgu are great athletes (love Maz me) but both very limited technically. Are we really saying we build a team or system around those players?
comment in response to post
There’s no magic £ bullet though. United are looking at mid-range buys (eg Dorgu) and developing youth players. The days of massive spends are gone and not coming back under the current owners. So the manager need must be able to work under those conditions. Anything else is delusional.

No. I couldn’t see a way United would score tonight.

So trigger happy with his subs normally too - bizarre

Spot on.

That actually made me laugh a bit which is quite welcome this HT. All week I didn’t see United scoring a goal unless it was Maguire or Cas at the back post and I haven’t changed my mind at all.

Because of his attitude? Or because he’s possibly overrated Nick?
comment in response to post
Onana isn’t shit, he’s average but with a fragile confidence: a bad combo. I just want a keeper at United that comes, claims, catches #centrehalvesunion

Be fair mate, they’re only making one day into two really.

Honestly those are the poshest football pies I’ve ever seen! I Ioved your book (though I haven’t always agreed with everything you’ve done), and have recommended it to many. Beautifully written, lots to think about. Take care.

Ha that’s v good
comment in response to post
He’s a properly good player, utterly ruined by Pep and his mad anti football thing. History will never forgive his treatment of De Bruyne, an actual generational talent.
