I'm a 66 year old new public school teacher. 4th or 5th career change. I'm scrambling to write 2 years of daily lesson plans for a new drone aviation program I'm launching. I throw disc golf almost daily, am remodeling two houses (gradually), and can't sleep more than 5 hours for some reason.

There's a documentary I recently got to screen (not sure when/where it will release) called "Hopeville," by a dyslexic director investigating better ways to start kids reading. I wish everyone could see it and start teaching reading in a better way.

Have you seen the documentary "Hopeville"? It's about the reintroduction of phonics based reading in first grade. We've gotta do this everywhere.

I teach in a high school. Several of my students can't functionally read. They hate trying.
We went through a period of "whole word" reading instruction. Students with any species of dyslexia struggle with this method, and everybody has to just memorize all the weird spelling issues in English.
