If you aren't familiar with Bryan's work, they give and give to community, art, history, and truth. You have my word this one of the best of causes, if you have money you can spare. I hope you'll also follow them for some of the best short videos and insights.

It's finally here. Jubilee, you were not alone then, and you are not alone now. 🏳️‍⚧️ 🕯️ If you are struggling, please, stay with us. Perhaps, in these pages, you will find a world of magic. -E. Gorgeous cover illustration by Grace P. Fong.

So today an opinion has come out of the woodworks that somehow marginalized voices shouldn't tell stories if their only avenue is small presses. Personally, I have experienced marginalization in many ways, including transgender, ethnic, etc. Without small presses, my stories would not exist.

"...and offer actionable solutions to attendees." -- is is what I was getting at in my replying to WorldCon's post.

In response to current discussions about specific matters, I decided it was worth writing a thing: brandonobrien.xyz/us-conventio...

"impacted by the actions of the U.S. president" We should not be putting this on Trump any more than those in power who are enabling him and the millions of Americans who voted for exactly the things he is doing. This is on us as a nation if we don't stand up to it.

Does it bother you at least a little that the U.S., Israel, and Russia have become the Germany, Italy, and Japan of the 21st century?

About six months ago, I found an article about small presses that do consistently great works. Now, I'm one of their authors!!!

It seems that the person who accused me of skimming money from GCWS is an invited guest in 2025. What a kick in the gut. To say I'm disappointed in Maurice and his new leadership team is an understatement. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid the Symposium is going back to the good-old-boys club.

To my friends and colleagues in Ukraine, I'm so, so sorry. The United States has quickly become a dangerous embarrassment to the free world.

Emily is in Strange Horizons this week. If it makes you uncomfortable, well... good.

Congratulations to @genni.bsky.social, Clare Rhoden, and @edebell.com for making the BSFA Awards Longlist in Short Fiction and Short Nonfiction! 🥂 Apex had the honor of publishing "Kizimbani" and "Escapism is a Lie" in 2024; links to read both outstanding pieces can be found below! ⬇️

I urge people to not talk down *any* act of defiance, no matter how small or ineffective it seems to you, or you feel doing it. 1) People doing something so alone to be noted are very much at risk. 2) Sparks eventually start fires.

I think the wild thing that this political moment has taught us, from TikTok’s apparent censorship to orgs like WotC dropping support for safe play spaces for marginalised players, is that when bigotry rears its many heads, people who loved to play the ally card in safer times resort to cowardice.

I love Charlie Jane's advice on all these things, and agree, but I'd be careful with this one. The volunteers who are burned out are often so because of potentially intense mistreatment - or misalignment. I think this needs to get talked about but I don't think anyone will platform it rn.

Interested in the #1 New Release in African Literature? You can get it on the A-zon, or catch a paperback (with ebook) or audiobook here: www.atthisarts.com/product/song...

We'll be on live at 4pm PST (7pm EST) to discuss Ukrainian novel THE FACTORY and other cool stuff. The conversation will remain available to watch even after we are no longer live (which does not mean after we're dead, although that may prove to be true also.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=zue2...

In case a quirky, short, angry, stand-alone, multi-genre fantasy read on truth, lies, and authority might appeal to you I wrote this in 2018, and it's actually maintained a 4.5 rating on Goodreads. www.atthisarts.com/product/lord...

Seconding this. There are so many things to care about. Time, energy, resources are finite for all of us. Work where and how you can, wherever your expertise lies. And hold space/the megaphone for folks working on the fronts you can't handle or are less adept at navigating at any given time.

Hesitant to post this today because the review's goddam beautiful and it's about my book and I know how to read a damn room but the day ingrained rectal leavings in human form keep me from cool shit is the day I lose my faith in love. And that ain't happening.

White men going silent this morning for their own health, while women of color continue fighting. That tracks. I'm staying engaged and online. And I see you all.
