Well, this statement pulls no punches. 💪

Bravo to Durham Miners’ Association 👏👏 www.durhamminers.org/statement_du...

“They are building a techno-authoritarian surveillance state. We can see that happening in real time. This is huge amounts of data on every single person in America that can and will be used in opaque & unaccountable ways—and it is terrifying.” Must watch interview with @carolecadwalla.bsky.social.

They called her a mad cat woman and tried to destroy her reputation. Then they dragged her through the courts and tried to destroy her life. But @carolecadwalla.bsky.social is standing tall and continues telling the inconvenient truth. A must see. youtu.be/vG7CvbccdVM?...

Trump has tapped Palantir, which has been used by the Israeli government in its war on Gaza, to compile information on people in the United States. “If you're not freaking out yet, you should be,” says @carolecadwalla.bsky.social.

Both Putin & Netanyahu are currently humiliating Trump. But he still sees them as his closest friends.

A great win, with national implications. At last, councils will have to take into account the cumulative effects of livestock factories on river catchments. It's all about increments of excrement. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

35 years ago today, the official demolition of the Berlin wall began in several places, such as Bernauer Straße. Later that month, the dismantling of all border security facilities in the inner city was agreed, except for some that were to be preserved as historic monuments.

Germany celebrated the first National Veterans' Day yesterday with nationwide events in honour of its ten million veterans. Chancellor Merz called the Bundeswehr an integral part of Germany's society. Defence Minister Pistorius thanked them for their professionalism & dedication.

On this day in 1953, around 1 million people in East Germany took to the streets to protest against the regime. The largely peaceful uprising was violently suppressed. West Germany celebrated the 1953 uprising as a public holiday until German Unity in 1990.

I wrote much of what I think about this election before it happened, so I am going to put it all together here. My book, Autocracy Inc, described the network of autocrats who seek to undermine democracy, inside their countries and ours www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/725302...

The European Commission wants to let Ukraine into the EU's roaming area — where people can use their phones abroad without extra charges — in 2026, it said today.

This is not normal. A sitting president refusing to call the governor of a state after two elected officials were shot, one fatally, is beyond words. A typical president, regardless of politics, would pick up the phone. Offer condolences.

Chair @leedsblue67.bsky.social welcomes Starmer's recent 'EU reset' in this @yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk letter. But it doesn't go far enough. eg. It won't deliver all of the EU single market & customs union benefits "Build on this reset - it's a beginning - to minimise Brexit's impact", says Peter

RIP USA. The Taco can't deal with other world leaders. He only feels safe with tyrants and wannabees who bribe him with gifts. America used to lead in times of crisis. Now it's not even at the table. The long-term effect of this on America's hard and soft power will be devastating. #NoKings

Europe must be ready to defend what it stands for: Our values. Our people. We are putting forward ambitious proposals to cut red tape and facilitate access to the €800 billion that EU countries urgently need to ramp up defence investments over the next four years ↓ europa.eu/!xcWjRb

Brexit has broken families as well as trade, and this heartbreaking story shows how cruel and senseless it is to force a British mother to choose between her country and her husband. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I wanted two things on my birthday: A French 75 and a cupcake, had both. The French 75, one of the best I’ve made. The sun, glorious. Worse days for a birthday eh? Hoped to spend the day in Montmartre. Wasn’t to be. Instead, nearly got run over in Essex. Low key day, will celebrate next weekend ♥️

God, here we go again. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

🔴Labour Apart: How Morgan McSweeney Levered the Left Out of Power The story of how Keir Starmer’s chief adviser hoodwinked Labour party members tells us a lot about how power really works, argues Neal Lawson bylinetimes.com/2025/06/17/l...

With reports that drivers were stuck for 5 hours on M11, it's a salutary reminder to always carry water in your car for yourself and pets... especially if driving motorways

That Keir Starmer has chosen to get into bed with Trump whose only interest is in satisfying himself and his coterie of billionaires, while the EU is on the UK's doorstep, shows how that special relationship is one of absolute US vassalism. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

What is an "acceptable" kill rate for self-driving cars? For example, what if they still cause crashes that kill people from time to time, but at half the rate of human drivers? Or a quarter? Or a tenth? Where's the line beyond which those deaths are a "necessary evil" to save all the other lives?

WE HAVE QUESTIONS… This is a kidnapping. No uniform, no badge, civilian car. Who are they? ICE? Sanctioned bounty hunters? Either way, they’re grabbing people without warrants. How often is this happening, and why aren’t more people talking about it? Congress?

Dear Mark Carney, thank you for bringing us together in Canada. It's good to be among trusted partners. This week we strengthen G7 unity. Next week we open a new era in our strategic partnership at our 🇪🇺🇨🇦 Summit. With a major step on security and defence cooperation.

This pub-level politics is madness from Farage….the idea of re opening blast furnaces is a fantasy, when the first goes out the molten metal sets and blocks everything up - entirely new blast furnaces are needed - if Port Talbot re opens it should be as a green steel producer. buff.ly/Sqno46F

Petition to expel the Israeli Ambassador to the UK has reached nearly 200,000 signatures. It is time for Hotovely to go.

Windrush scandal victims got less compensation due to lack of legal advice funding, review finds. Similar pattern at the Post Office, infected blood and other scandals. Poor can't buy legal advice, bludgeoned into accepting low compensation, leaving injustice behind. Govt must provide it.

The wilful disinformation being spread by Musk and others about the Minnesota assassinations on X is similar to what occurred after the UK's riots in summer 2024. Governments need to wake up to threats the platform poses to civil disorder and societal polarisation.
