not many things I can think of that are more elitist than an unelected half-trillionaire and government contractor along with his hand picked group of minions having free rein to illegally disfigure the federal govt, firing 1000s of people and cutting off aid to people in urgent need

steve bannon, who just gave Nazi salute, calls US Jews number one enemy to people he (bannon) sees as allies. In other words, US Jews are his enemy. Simply disgusting. Waiting to hear from all those Rs in Congress and the admin who claim to be champions in the fight against antii-Semitism.

This is very, very bad. Am working on a write-up, but let’s just say that firing military leaders for blatantly political reasons is wildly inappropriate; firing all the too lawyers is ominous; firing them all at the same time is a terrifying five-alarm fire

It is reasonable to ask when Rs will act to set limits on trump's pursuit of power w/out limits as a dictator, but we have seen no evidence over 9 years of outrageous excessed that anything will move them to act-1/6 made this especially clear. *some* Rs like Cheney have acted, most have not 1/2

trump trying to extort Ukraine, you say? That was, of course, at the heart of his first impeachment--and now he can just do this out in the open as trump believes no legal limits apply to him and he is beyond accountability. It is still to be determined whether he is correct--he might be.

This is evil. Mindless, but also evil

Huey Long, an early 20th century aspiring US dictator and Louisiana governor, once said of the LA state constitution: "I'm the constitution just now". A contemporary compared Long to Mussolini. trump follows in Long's tradition, though of course if far more dangerous than Long was.

I suspect many of us see this, but it needs to be said: what we are seeing from trump & musk is evil. Moral judgment is appropriate when trump & musk side with a dictator who has killed tens of 1000s of Ukrainians. musk and now bannon have thrown Nazi salutes--again, that is evil. 1/x

This kind of crude threat is what reporters insist on calling "transactional."

"farmers are apoplectic. In Ohio, they’re stressed about USAID contracts and USDA cost-sharing investments. They held up their end. The government made promises. Now their family farms and livelihoods are on the line. Billions of dollars are at stake. It’s all being held hostage by Musk and Trump."

This has no purpose other than to break our national capacity for public health & outbreak response by the most cruel, insulting, & inhumane means available. To all my colleagues: I don't believe these claims. Thank you for your public service. To DOGE: Fuck you for your public disservice.

trump's massive 1/6 pardons unleashed dangerous people in the US; trump is responsible for crimes they commit. Responsible elected officials would have already taken action to address trump's profoundly irresponsible pardons.

more audio today of Trump blaming Biden and Zelensky for the war. If you can make your way through his babbling incoherence, you can see his muddled conception of the war and desire to appease Russia. www.newsweek.com/trump-acknow...

Maybe I'm imagining this, but poltroons like bannon look quite diffident throwing up Nazi salutes. musk is an exception--he did his (twice) with gusto. But bannon looks kind of timid/uncertain/halfhearted--like he knows this isn't right but is doing it anyways.

Ladies and gentlemen, the French far-right, which specializes in knowing *exactly* what Nazis are. Imagine being too Nazi for the National Rally

His main argument was that the US constitution has transformed many times, not only through formal amendments but through informal shifts in elite and popular interpretation. Trump is effectively trying to entrench a new constitution, and it will be enacted to the extent we treat it as legitimate.

Feels extraordinary that while a far-right politician is willing to call out a Nazi salute (out of self-interest, sure) centrist media only talk of 'controversial gestures'. If you cannot describe what is in front of your eyes are you in the right job?

the french nazis somehow come out looking better than the american conservative movement (to be clear: all nazis suck. fuck all the nazis, theres no good nazis)

It’s journalistic malpractice — to the extent that’s a thing any more — to talk about this Ed Martin letter without clarifying that every expert, other than administration hacks, thinks that Garcia’s statement was not remotely plausibly a true threat. It’s simply ludicrous.

Rep. Garcia's words are quite clearly protected speech under the Supreme Court's decision in Brandenburg v. Ohio. edward martin is trying to intimidate a member of Congress who engaged in protected 1st Amendment speech.

I feel so sick. Enough with the lies, enough with the games. They know exactly what they're doing. This is a neo-Nazi movement. Proudly so. The only reason they've kept it coded up until now was to take advantage of those who didn't want to believe it. No more looking away. Face up to what it is.

University of Michigan.

"Tyranny is rising in the White House, and a man has declared himself our king. So I would like to know—rather, the *people* would like to know, what you, Congressman, and your fellow congressmen are going to do to rein in the megalomaniac in the White House."

what's happening is the cutting down of american capacity and infrastructure. to be clear. and foreign adversaries like russia are openly cheering for trump's and musk's remarks and actions on state owned media.

The priest who gave a Nazi salute faced some accountability, I believe. But musk has not --not in any way. Nazi salutes are being normalized.

I’m not sure the world has seen a genuine supervillain until 2025. Of course there’ve been countless monsters: hitler, Stalin, pol pot. But a real life figure who fits the Gotham/Metropolis model. Plutocrat bigwig who is actually deeply evil & wants to run the world for cartoonishly stupid reasons.

Madison warned about "parchment barriers"-words on paper mean nothing unless there are effective enforcement mechanisms. We are seeing Constitution exposed as parchment barriers bc Rs in Congress will not uphold their duties under the Madisonian system, deferring to a president who would be king

These stories showing up nonstop on local TV news youtu.be/N23KVyaSoLw?...

Idk feels like the president declaring himself King ought to be A1 headline stuff

This is clearly what trump intends--to stay in office for life. No guarantee he succeeds, but we saw what happened Jan. 6 and the danger is real. Up to Rs in Congress to act, but they didn't after 1/6, so no guarantee they ever will.

From the Admin that purports to support free speech, this baseless “Operation” is only meant to chill free speech. There is no predication for the FBI to open this investigation. The DOJ IG must monitor this closely — it appears to violate Department guidelines.

The political juggernaut that members of Congress from both parties cower in fear of - already heading back to his familiar territory of low 40s approval one month into his presidency www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

That crass pregnancy and burnt toast joke you share in public. This thread needs your attention.
