"everything here was pretty chill today, not sure what all the fuss was about, we don't particularly see any need for escalation" --literally the LAPD

Here’s the “Presidential Memorandum”: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential... There’s no Insurrection Act invocation; Trump is federalizing 2000 CA Nat’l Guard personnel only to “protect federal functions.” *Without* invoking the Insurrection Act, anything more would violate the Posse Comitatus Act.

The Insurrection Act is sweeping. It’s a huge grant of power to the President. It is also very expressly for conditions that do not exist in California. And if you’re hypothetically the governor, you should be saying so.

I look forward to yet another blue city joining ranks of “it burned for a hundred days, whole blocks in ruins like Portland and Minneapolis!” Fox brain rot folk knowledge.

PARAMOUNT, Calif. (AP) — Trump says he's deploying 2,000 California National Guard troops to LA immigration protests over governor's objections.

Kristi Noem in Feb 2024: If Biden federalizes the National Guard [to handle border issues], we’ve got a war on our hands.”l Kristi Noem in 2025 as DHS Secretary: …federalizing the National Guard.

We aren't even six months into this administration and if they are trying to federalize the CA NG as per Newsom, we are cooked.

Dragnet

This is @melbuer.bsky.social on Sean’s account, posting here since it’s his video: the moment that Sean and @ryannemena.bsky.social were injured by what may have been a tear gas canister fired from a line of HSI officers in Paramount, CA.

We were at the federal detention center in downtown LA. They deployed some type of chemical irritant that made people cough and we had to mask. The people here were mainly attorneys, family of those being detained, and two members of Congress. @NormaJTorres

Hope other countries are excited for the LA Olympics!

The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers. That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.

“Since Thursday’s exchange [between Musk and Trump], at least three commercial space companies, Rocket Lab, Stoke Space and Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin, have been contacted by government officials about the status of their rockets and when they might be available for government missions…”

folks I've been tear gassed something like 200 times and maced at least fifty or so times. once i was soaked in mace to my underwear. ignore any neat scientific tricks people give you for beating this stuff -Water for tear gas -sudecon wipes for mace -if no sudecon, wash mace with water

I'm not crazy about this. I get the anger and the urge to do this. But if you don't give them an exit at some point, they will make one.

"So here's the plan -- we impose massive tariffs on the nations that sell us food." "Hmm." "But it's OK, because we just rely more on states like California that grow a lot of the same things." "Oh, I guess that ..." "And then we go to war with California."

The speed in which we have decayed into an open oligarchic kleptocracy is astounding

Protesting is a delicate balance of ritualized violence, where they bet they can scare people off and the people attempt to make that as expensive as possible. And, every now and then you get someone like this who just tears through their mirage of strength so beautifully.

Tom Homan: We are making Los Angeles safer. Mayor Bass should be thanking us. She says they are going to mobilize—guess what? We are already mobilizing. We are going to bring the National Guard in tonight

happy Shut The Fuck Up Saturday to all participating

Los Angeles school worker shares frustration over parents having to leave their children’s graduation ceremony because ICE raided an elementary school’s graduation today

It's extraordinary how brutal police are willing to be, the lengths to which they are willing to go, the internal solidarity they are willing to show, in order to deliver to U.S. citizens—the protection of whom is their ostensible jobs—the clear message, "we are at war with you."

Los Angeles: if you get tear gas or see other people who have been and someone calling themselves a medic tries to use milk to wash their eyes out SLAP THAT MILK JUG OUT THEIR FUCKING HAND. MILK DOES NOT WASH OUT TEAR GAS. Just use bottled water please.

Any political reporters had the balls to follow up with Trump about the Epstein tapes? Are they just going to let this drift away again? I know that Biden has gotten several days older while all this has unfolded, but ... still.

So, to be clear, Musk has now admitted he funded a man he believes to be a pedophile to be president. And Trump has now admitted that he gave access to high level government secrets to a man he believes to be a big time drug addict. This should be *the* story on the Sunday shows tomorrow.

The LA protests will trigger a drumbeat of "law and order" messaging from the White House and their media allies as a prelude to invoking the Insurrection Act. This is entirely predictable, and any Dem or media outlet that facilitates this narrative will be aiding Trump's authoritarian project.

Whats the over under on Trump telling them to keep a non-trivial number of those armored vehicles on permanent station after his parade?

just want to underline again that a big part of the reason Musk and Trump fell out is because Musk has been under enormous pressure from public protest that has badly damaged his companies. 1

ICE vans ran through a crowd of anti-ICE protesters in Paramount, CA, at least two with extreme injuries, per @acatwithnews.bsky.social A major fire is burning in the middle of the street, per Sean.

Reports that ICE ran a barricade and hit protesters in LA

Things sound terrible out of Paramount Ca.

Now that your tax dollars aren't being wasted on things like FEMA, the National Weather Service, medical research, education, and thousands of other avenues to help society, they can be spent on important things like giving Donnie Trump a Red Square military parade

The NYPD and ICE mistakenly arrested a Chilean woman who is a permanent resident in New York City and left her poor frightened 12 year old daughter on the street alone. She was released approximately six hours later. This is the fearful state of America.

My assumption was always that if Trump had excuted the withdrawal from Afghanistan (as he flirted with in late 2020), there would have been zero effort to evacuate vulnerable Afghans. Actions like this are consistent with that theory.

A violent ICE raid now under way at a Home Depot in Paramount, a city in LA County. They’ve been tear-gassing and beating protesters.

My advice to Democrats would be to stop letting Republicans set the terms of debate, start making it clear you’re acting on principles instead of polls, and fire Rahm Emmanuel into the sun.

pro tip: if you high-fived as cops were being bludgeoned with fire extinguishers on Jan 6, you don't get to say one fucking word about legitimate protests against ICE thugs and goons. just stick a fucking sock in it

Karen Bass is a liar *and* she does not control the LAPD. Nobody controls the LAPD.

I am old enough to remember when the 2A MAGA nut jobs said this was the only reason they needed their guns. This. Exactly this. Look again, entirely this. Anyway, have a nice weekend.

It's the Washington Monument in the background that really takes this to next-level dystopian
