“We set our house on fire to heat up a pizza, then we decided to put out most of the fire. Now we are only left with a burned pizza, partially burned down house and a smaller fire in the corner of the living room.”

Patrick Vallance is drawing up plans for reforming UK R&D, an FOI request by @francesjones.bsky.social reveals @andywestwood.bsky.social says the plans show a move to more "ministerial direction and influence" that will end up driving funding allocations All eyes on the June 11 spending review...

Couldn't people just do the decent thing, and disprove of him during the Presidential election?

The core trilma here remains the same - the govt needs to accept one of three things: high student migration, higher domestic student fees (or higher taxes to fund universities) or university bankruptcies. Those are the only options, given where we are. Pick one.

I'm sure this will have absolutely no effect whatsoever on defined contribution pension schemes across the length and breath of the land 😬

Man who has to put confidence intervals on the number of children he has in “strong opinions about the real problems faced by teenagers” shocker.
