Wow. Re leadership and governance, Augur notes that no one seems to be held responsible for failures and suggests that (as in banking) some portion of VC and senior management remuneration should be held back until it's clear their institutions have indeed flourished.

I've heard this a few times, I think the Gaza vote skewed this. Greens went hard on this issue (and it combined with a reasonably sized middle class base Green vote that's always there), and there was no independent candidate (see Dewsbury example)

Globalisation is enormously in the UK’s interests and the failure to aggressively pursue trade liberalisation with the EU (and others) is increasingly bizarre - especially when that seems to result in part from a complete misread of the situation in the US.
