This is true but I think the cultural cache of manufacturing still has a hold on people. People view it as more "real" or honorable work than the 21st century service sector. I have to imagine that one factor is how the respective jobs code in race/gender terms.

Actually, what can we do about that? Specifically losses after food enters the household--seems like that could be tougher to address with policy levers. Is it things like reforming expiration date systems?
