The first step in policy analysis is figuring out what's going wrong. And by my view, we're facing two crises: A tariff crisis, and a crisis of confidence built upon fears incompetence. Let me lay it out, wonk it out and math it out. (I get a bit testy because I think this stuff really matters.)

A funny thing is that "how would they treat a Democratic President in the same situation" thing is totally hypothetical because all the huge market crashes in my lifetime happened under Republicans.

I’m sure the tariffs aren’t helping but in this specific case it might be more because we’re locking tourists up in detention centers

I love the Tenement Museum because we can learn so much! It's applicable to today as well! 1. How to fit 17 people into a 1-bedroom tenement 2. Asbestos for Everyone! 3. Triangle Shirtwaist is a great place to work 4. No need for social programs, just start a mutual aid society

The money is going to what now

Unfortunately, under the Unitary Executive theory, the Court may give every President even more

In books the cops always stake out the funeral in case the serial killer shows up

What's most significant about today's day of action is the sheer number of locations where protests took place -- more than 1000 towns and cities, all over the country. That's only happened one or two times before *in all of American history.*
