You ought to know Phil Mendez, a veteran comic artist, animator, Imagineer, writer, and illustrator who worked on a vast variety of shows for studios like Hanna-Barbera, Marvel, and DIC and created a pair of Saturday morning cartoons, Kissyfur and Foofur. #BlackHistoryMonth

You ought to know George Herriman, creator of Krazy Kat (a comic about a sexually-ambiguous cat and the brick-throwing mouse and dog cop who loves them) and one of the most influential comic artists and writers ever and a man who literally changed the face of comic strips. #BlackHistoryMonth

Ralph is on bsky if you didn’t know!

You ought to know Brenda Banks, one of the first Black female animators in Hollywood, whose career spanned four decades where she worked on diverse projects from Ralph Bakshi films to The Smurfs and Daffy Duck to The Pirates of Dark Water and King of the Hill. #BlackHistoryMonth

Another fantastic piece of work that gives you tools to refuse to be steamrolled by marketing hype: Refusing GenAI in Writing Studies refusinggenai.wordpress.com by Jennifer Sano-Franchini, West Virginia University Megan McIntyre, University of Arkansas Maggie Fernandes, University of Arkansas

AI: The New Aesthetics of Fascism newsocialist.org.uk/transmission... This article is excellent. It synthesizes so much that I've been thinking about recently, especially the connections between the worst actors in society and the worst technology. Give it a solid read!

The tech push into genAI aligns with their consolidation of power, control of information, deregulation, denigration of teachers artists experts and objective reality. It is all in alignment with demolishing democratic systems.
