Another packed #Planetarium at Towson Univeristy!

Feds, we chose this path to serve a greater purpose. In these times of cruelty and fear, remember: our work still matters, even when the public forgets. Every life we impact is a strike back against false kings. Stand tall, stay strong, and hold the line. We are needed, now, more than ever.

. @chriswarcraft.bsky.social is my hero.

Listen to Secretary Pete. And remember, these are our funds. These are our courts. And these are our streets.

Doing our now twice-a-month thing at Towson University’s #Planetarium.

This is the equivalent of Nazi book banning. Trump Administration has ordered all federal scientists to formally retract peer reviewed, published scientific papers that mention climate change, reproductive health or any research on LGBT. Trump is evil. www.zmescience.com/science/trum...

Trump is doing everything Putin wants him to do: abandoning our nation’s core values, attacking longtime allies, and picking Tulsi Gabbard for a critical national intelligence role. Putin has us right where he wants us, with his puppet as our President. America first? youtu.be/iPXXFfXk5aM

We keep hearing about masculinity from the Zuckerbergs of the world-- this woman has shown more courage in this 60-second clip than any of the tech billionaires have shown in recent memory as they grovel at Trump's feet.

Screening Celestial Canoe, a short in the One Sky #planetarium show.

This is, or should be, a big deal -- Ann Telnaes, an absolute legend, quitting WaPo due to censorship of a cartoon criticizing billionaires anntelnaes.substack.com/p/why-im-qui...

A New Year's tradition: watching the Philly Mummers Day parade, with all the spectacle, music and occasional cringe. #mummers2025

It’s not just the fabled Christmas Star that is contemplated this time of year. Many cultures associated the winter solstice with the return of the light. So we also looked at the short film “celestial canoe” which is one of my favorites.

Our last show at the #planetarium at Towson Univeristy. We call it “A Star in the East”

Gave my astronomy final exam before the department Christmas party, and it's potluck.

I made a donation to help, and you should too.

🔭 🚨 We have a new paper out! Lead: Garett Brown We shoot random stars and free floating planets at the early Solar System. It turns out, there is a surprisingly high (1%) that we reproduce something that is consistent with the present day Solar System to a high degree. arxiv.org/abs/2412.04583

Gave a final astronomy exam today, and damn if I don’t have the nicest students.

Last Friday I showed off Parker Solar Probe's upcoming deep dive into the Sun's corona in OpenSpace (@openspaceproj.bsky.social ). The audience got a kick out of learning that it's gonna happen on December 24th. Sometimes, perihelion just happens to line up with the holidays. #planetarium

Always a pleasure to host shows at our #planetarium at Towson University.

We are going to fight these Trump appointments. Every one of them.

Some band named Big Kill followed me. They have a song called Happiness. I watched their video and now I can’t this song out of my head. I hate Big Kill* @bigkill.bsky.social

This

Thus begins our Adagio tea advent calendar.

Though reading the caption is a sad reminder that this is archival footage from Nov 16, *2022*. I've never seen a spacecraft developed this slowly.

Speaking of NASA, they're not on Bluesky. Rats!

The Yule Log video we needed. Well done, NASA, well done. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cgT...

If you haven't yet, give "The Orville" a chance on Hulu. It is fantastic. Brings the basic principles of Star Trek into even more modern issues and it is also funny. Gets really good after season 2 and peaks in the last season.

Sometimes the headline and the image alone tells the whole story.

You see it, right? Trump told his supporters tariffs were about making stuff in America, about American jobs, about lowering costs for Americans. All bullshit, of course, but it sounded good to the MAGAs, even if Trump's own advisors kept telling him it wouldn't work. 1/

Coming up with test questions is a struggle because I keep thinking of really cool questions to ask only to realize I didn’t teach that particular cool thing.

📢The Guardian is now officially on Bluesky @theguardian.com
