This is, or should be, a big deal -- Ann Telnaes, an absolute legend, quitting WaPo due to censorship of a cartoon criticizing billionaires

To Democracy, a promise unbroken.
Sucks, but not suprising she's bagged.
Offhand, thinking Tom Nast would have supported it.
damn
Are billionaires having trouble paying their bills or something? They sure do complain a lot.
None of this stopped Erdoğan's attacks until there was full submission or takeover of the media by his cronies.

God I hate Jeff Bezos
@mcuban.bsky.social ?
The one system that seems to work is the UK's Guardian - it's been in some form of trust since the 1930s, with little or no influence from the board of trustees: hiring or firing the editor-in-chief is their limit.
Also, those who thought of Bezos as a white knight were being naive.
It's gone through a few changes due to tax laws, but still has no control on the editorial side.
They are supposed to be a check on power, and can't do their job if they're not allowed to be independent.
They still have it there.
Probably time to stop saying that.
They are their progeny could live lives of luxury with 100 million dollars, but they never stop there, do they?
until that time I will not be giving them a dime

Sorry it took so long to get back to you!
Didn’t do first description of the video, but here are the 3 memes, plus one for ‘good measure’! 😉
Thanks!

There was *absolutely* no legitimate reason for that cartoon to be killed.
It is commonly associated with Nazi Germany, where it describes the systematic and forceful coordination of all institutions to align with Nazi ideology and policies.
“Democracy Dies in Darkness” and now we see it dying everywhere during the day.
Democracy
died at WaPo 1/3/25
But it actually
was dead at Wapo
prior to this year 🙄
The Washington Post makes me feel even better about canceling my subscription with each passing day.
WaPo is working hard to create the darkness democracy dies in.
The good people remaining that work there need to find other jobs. It sucks. It’s not your fault.

Find other sources of goods and information than Amazon and the Washington Post.
Extend this to WaPo advertisers and those selling on Amazon Marketplace.
Just? Please do not belittle yourself or your talent. You truly exemplify the axiom, “a pictures worth a thousand words” and, I would add, moreso when hand drawn. 🙌
Now this. Shameful.
I support editorial cartoonists by posting long daily🧵s of their work—pinned to my profile, with previous 🧵s under my Feeds tab.
These same newspapers were silent while our democracy burned to the ground. They will remain silent.
"Never forget that your obligation is to the people. It is not, at heart, to those who pay you, or to your editor, or to your sources, or to your friends, or to the advancement of your career. It is to the public."

Oh wait...
Fuck the Post and its repulsive overlord
Chief among them David Shipley, Mary Duenwald, Charles, Lane, Stephen Stromberg, David Von Drehle, and Michael Larabee.
They kissed Bezos' ass on the endorsement, and now this.
but since she didn't name the editors, I think the point stands.
I'm also glad I never went so far as to pay for WaPo in the first place.
But do my farmer neighbors think it's the portent of doom that it is? Nope! 😕
Bezos could care. He has access to anything he wants, vice or not.
It is a very sad state of affairs.
MBM
They can slander you, slander the very group you belong to (hate speech), dox you, but you can't do any of those to them.
Not good for us but impressed with her strong decision.
Merci Ann.
