"The left went too far" in contemporary U.S. politics is almost always a lie and a very convenient way to rationalize moral failure. For example, "MeToo went too far" replaces "I do not care about sexual violence or its victims and I don't want to have to even feel bad about that"

this level of frothing misogyny makes me feel weirdly zen—if men hate women enough to justify nuking the entire economy in order to take them down a peg, well, there wasn't really anything that anyone could have done to stop it

THE RISE OF END TIMES FASCISM My first major piece of the new Trump era, co-written with @astra.bsky.social. The governing ideology of the far right has become a monstrous, supremacist survivalism. Our task is to build a movement strong enough to stop them. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

We just need to turn the negative productivity of scientists at NASA and IRS auditors that DOGE fired to gainfully making shoes in Nike factories reshored from Vietnam. This is the groundbreaking economic thinking of communist purges from Mao to Pol Pot with a sprinkle of American Exceptionalism.

Abrego Garcia's isolation is the death-in-life at the heart of concentration camp regimes. They want to present what they're doing as reasonable and therefore somehow legal while terrorizing targeted groups, claiming the power to exile anyone from society, even when it's clearly outside the law.

US President makes clear to the world that he is willing to disappear any person in the USA with no due process whatsoever. He joins the ranks of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Augusto Pinochet, Rodrigo Duterte, and such in using extrajudicial disappearance or killing to target vulnerable groups.

The claim that the U.S. can’t get him back is 1) false and 2) obviously a pretext for their deliberate attempt to ignore the Due process clauses of the 5th and 14th Amendments. It’s the sort of transparent deception this SCOTUS majority would see through if it came from a Democratic president.

Unprecedented violations of constitution, international treaties, US law, & all the norms, now happening daily, & yet he is still in office. We are a deeply unserious country.

If the government can pay a foreign state to imprison you and, in so doing, remove you from the protection of US law, the Constitution is worthless.

sort of wild that "the government should not pick who wins and loses in the market, and free trade is good" is now no longer the position of the US government

lol, literally just raiding fort knox

Wisdom and goodness to the vild seem vild, Filths savor but themselves.

Why, thou picture of what thou seemest, and idol of idiot-worshippers

This is truth. People are being disappeared by this administration. Let’s not dress it up or frame it via one egregious case or another. This is a systemic effort to violate US law, international law and human rights.

The United States Supreme Court, as packed by the Federalist Society, as supported by the Randy Barretts and Ilya Shapiros and Jonathan Turleys of America, is suited to squabble over what “facilitate” means but not to achieve justice or protect or defend the United States Constitution.

If people don't already see how eliminating trans healthcare, attacking family planning, promoting white natalism, and putting people in concentration camps due to skin colour are *all the same song* I don't even know where to start.

This is happening in spite of the fact that the president is not in charge of the Smithsonian. It's not an executive branch government agency, rather it's chartered by Congress and under a board of regents created by statute, none of whom are even appointed by the president.

Even to the extent that she was there on Michigan's behalf, what is it going to take to convince people normal politics is over? If it's not undesirables who haven't done anything being sent to a gulag or people getting arrested for their opinions, what will it take? What would Trump have to do?

“The reporter from MyPillow asked the White House press secretary why the president looks so healthy and robust” is a true sentence that exists in our current reality.

Reading this story makes me so mad. Falsifying government records, on purpose, in order to harm people. If a criminal conspiracy to impair civil rights was a thing then a whole lot of people should be getting handcuffs and a jail cell. "common sense policies" my left foot

The real question is--why do so many Americans believe the MAHA message, despite it being so obviously false? And I'd argue--it's because that message offers both a sense of control in the face of uncertainty and a sense of moral superiority as a reward for good health. Let me explain... 1/🧵

I have said this many times but the governing class has very little interest in being the consequence class. Because when you start arresting people in your own fraternity for things, then you're that much closer to being arrested yourself. That's why Trump can do infinity crimes.

🚨 WaPo exclusive — The Trump admin has set its sights on deporting **1 MILLION** immigrants this year. How it went from a quiet ambition to a White House strategy. Scooping with @mariasacchetti.bsky.social.
