However there is one thing I suspect smartphones have spoilt a little and that's when you arrive in an new place. These days the tendency is to open the maps app and follow the directions on there. And you miss everything. All the odd little details on the buildings, a magpie standing on a bin. 2/4

And I am *definitely* the kind of doctor to whom you should tell your tales of wandering the catacombs, looking for the bones of ancient kings.

I would bet good money on the fact that she has never cared in the slightest about nature watching or the RSPB until someone told her they were running a trans inclusive event

Oh yes. I’m not so far gone that I roast and grind my own beans, but I will have the espresso properly extracted from the single-origin artisan coffee thankyouverymuch 😉

Oh come on. This has to be a bit. Or an Ai hallucination (There’s an R.P. Tyler in Good Omens who’s always complaining to the parish council. Surely it’s not a coincidence)

Not necessarily, if you’re faced with a very long document that might take you an hour plus to read, then more time still to figure out the key points, before you even get to finding out more about those key points. Figuring out quickly where to put your focus can be useful.

I didn’t mean that way, because of course. I meant purely in the sense of generational differences, and, possibly, letting go of “this is how it’s always been for me, so why should I change my thinking now?”

Also, my understanding is this kind of use is much less energy intensive than image and video generation. From an environmental point of view, those are the real monsters.

I… actually think the summarising aspect is… probably the most persuasive use-case? So long as you fact-check, of course, and don’t just a) blindly believe what it says and b) don’t just blindly copy that summary into something else…

I think poking your tongue into the sore tooth of “but what if I’m wrong, though?” is always healthy. At least entertaining the possibility is what keeps the villain arc in check

I really, really hope you’re right 💜

*whispers* I sometimes wonder if gen Ai might turn out a bit like this… … like… almost everyone who hates it is older, right? We’re all really, really sure we’re right…
