David Cronenberg was much more sanguine about A.I. than I expected

Pretending Real Madrid are some tactical genius side that have unlocked free-flowing football and not simply the best squad in world football papering over endless tactical cracks <<<<

I'll be writing weekly about the season, which is being released in three-episode chunks over the next month. Look for my take on the initial trio tonight at midnight here: www.rollingstone.com/author/alan-...

The White Lotus finale was bad and should feel bad:

I still like college basketball, but replay reviews and more commercial breaks have made it a less compelling sport than it used to be. Too many long delays in the game.

IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR A GOOD OL HOCKEY GAME 🇨🇦

NEW: Netflix's "Court of Gold" is the best sports documentary I've seen in months and by the end of 2025: I think it may be the best sports doc of the year. STORY: www.nytimes.com/athletic/613...

I find the rush to declare Arteta a "fraud" and write Arsenal off a bit ridiculous He restored them from a basketcase to a serious outfit An issue now is final moves to make up the gap, and there have been errors, that I go into below, but they're close www.independent.co.uk/sport/footba...

If you preorder Saul Goodman v. Jimmy McGill: The Complete Critical Companion to Better Call Saul now, you can get 50% off with the code FESTIVE24. You know who really likes 50% off deals? www.abramsbooks.com/product/saul...

This season Cole Palmer always plays as a No10 on paper - while rarely playing like a No10 on the pitch www.nytimes.com/athletic/598...

Rainbow Laces is solely about making people feel welcome at football, in an industry that lags way behind society in LGBTQ+ representation That’s it. A simple message of decency And no one is forcing anyone to play in a wealthy league that has this value t.co/a8gC9WZgJa

Here it is: the 10 best TV shows I watched this year.

Thought United were mostly very good in defensive structure - bar at set-pieces. Limited an Arsenal who had been flying from all angles again. Amorim was interesting on this after the game - but admitted the hard part is now the attack www.independent.co.uk/sport/footba...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Have tested Bluesky’s first NFL Sunday since the partial migration from American sports twitter over to here. Definitely has potential, some advantages over modern sports twitter, can be a lovely companion sports app—but does need work on the video side. The 1 minute limit, lack of HD videos etc.

My Week 11 picks and props! www.espn.com/espn/betting...

So damn exciting to see devs realize how open this network is! Almost every modern social app has an incredibly limited and hostile API while atproto/Bluesky is completely open. Also very exciting is how much the protocol and SDKs could improve the DX to be more ergonomic and efficient.

Wrote about arguably my favorite topic in all of sports: Jerry Jones spending $1.2 billion on a stadium built at the exact orientation so the sun shines directly into players eyes during the months when the Cowboys play football: open.substack.com/pub/rodgersh...
